Added in Alpha 13
Controllishhttps://7daystodie.fandom.com/wiki/Game_Mechanics?diff=78617Game Mechanics2016-03-02T16:07:24Z
Controllish:

The game's mechanics are simple. By day you want to be outside gathering resources and exploring, maybe migrating to another city/village/town. By night however, you'll want to be in a fortified safe house or shelter or else you'll be most likely killed by zombies, as they are stronger during the night.

Shelter
Housing is vital to survival and can be easily destroyed by Zombies. You can add protection to buildings by adding traps and using stronger blocks (cobblestone instead of wood). For example, if you create a perimeter of Wood Spikes around your house, Zombies will ignore the spikes and will run straight into them, therefore losing health and sometimes dying and also damaging the Wood Spikes a little bit. Also, if a house/shelter/base is being built, it must be made sure that supports have been built to hold up the roof, or else it will most likely fall if Zombies break some blocks, and therefore kill you. This is the main problem with Zombies during the night time, because they'll just attack your shelter (they'll attack more if they know where you are, so when you go back to your base/home you should always make sure to lose/not attract Zombies attention). If a group of Zombies (over time) destroyed the first layer of your house all the way around it... your house would collapse.

* Note: Walking from one end of your shelter to the other seems to confuse the Zombies, making them less likely to cause significant damage to your shelter.

There are many types of generated structures throughout the map, however these structures can be easily destroyed by Zombies as it is made from various types of wood. The best places to house are on top of: 3 to 4 floored buildings, gas stations/scrap yards, farm houses & barns.
It is preferable, around the later stages of the game, to build your own house Underground at Bedrock or to build a fortified castle ( Reinforced Concrete )in a valley with traps and obstacles around your fort while having your storage underground.

* Note: If you have an underground house, keep moving your house every 7-10 days so the Zombies can never get to you while digging. As Stone is quite tough to break with bare hands, digging to more than 40 blocks deep also makes an underground house even safer.

Day/Night
Day
Daytime is between 6:00 to 22:00 on default settings. During daytime, it is recommended that players spend most of their time strengthening a shelter and finding loot such as Weapons and Food.
Zombies move at half the speed of an average walking player.

Night
Night is between 22:00 to 6:00. When night begins to fall, Zombies become more dangerous and will try to find the player,
so it's advised to watch the time and take shelter before night falls. Zombies at night are more active and aggressive. They deal more damage and come in waves. If you kill all the Zombies, a new wave will appear. Zombies become very smart and will try to reach you during the night, even if that means breaking blocks. Zombies can even spawn in your house if you're not around, this can be prevented by placing a Sleeping Bag down which will stop Zombies spawning within a 15 block square.
Zombies move twice the speed of an average walking player, so if you have no Weapons &/or Painkillers you will probably die.

Note
Since the A11 release Zombies are running based on sunAngle rather than the Day/Night time. Zombies can start running around 18:30 or even sooner, so it is recommended to stay near your home or another secure location after 17:30 unless the survivor is well equipped with Stamina regenerating items (Coffee, Beer, Grain Alcohol, or Honey) and well armed/armored. As of version 12/13 this is not the case. In current version 13.6 - zombies run exclusively from 22.00 to 06.00.

Temperature
World temperature
The world has a global temperature in Fahrenheit Degrees and is displayed in the map under map stats. This world temperature fluctuates per biome, per time of day, and gets colder and warmer the higher and lower the altitude. Wind speed can also impact the temperature which is also shown in the map screen maps stats section.

Player Temperature
The player has a core temperature in Fahrenheit degrees which is the world temperature +/- some modifiers and is displayed in the new character menu in the player stats section next to the thermometer icon. When the player gets too cold a snowflake buff displays in the lower right corner of the screen with the players core temperature next to it warning the player of his current status. When the player gets too hot a sun buff displays in the lower right corner of the screen with the players core temperature next to it warning the player of his current status. These buffs can also be seen and examined in the active buffs panel in the character screen.

Temperature Modifiers
Wearing clothing that has a negative insulation value will cool down the player and is desirable for hot weather survival. F.E. the cowboy hat keeps the player cooler in the desert.
Wearing clothing that has a positive insulation value will warm the player and is desirable for cold weather survival.
Getting wet by moving through lakes, rain, or snow will make the player wet and colder when he’s cold and cool the player down when he’s hot.
Activity that uses stamina, like running or swinging a pickaxe, will warm up the player.
Standing near a campfire or forge that is burning will warm up the player.
All clothing will have a waterproof % capping how wet the player can get.
Going indoors will warm you when you’re cold and cool you when you are hot.
Exposure to direct sunlight will warm, and shade will cool, the player.
Some foods and drinks have temporary core temp warming or cooling properties. F.E. drinking coffee warms you while water and goldenrod tea will cool you.
Wind speed can also cool the player down and will be seen in the new map screen under map stats.

Temperature Effects
HEAT
90 degrees to 100 degrees
Thermometer icon appears on screen to help you track the temperature. Your avatar will make "whew!" sounds to show that it is hot but there is no penalty at all. You do not need to try and keep your temperature below 90 degrees.

100 degrees to 110 degrees
The Sad Sun icon appears on screen so that you know that you are losing hydration and will have to drink water more often. Your avatar continues to make sounds related to being hot but as long as you have plenty of water there is no need to remove clothing or armor or alter your playstyle while in this range.

110 degrees to 120 degrees
At this point you lose hydration and stamina. You will get messages pleading with you to find shade, water, and to rest.

120+ degrees
At this point you lose hydration, stamina, and health until you die.

You can enjoy your time in the desert with no to very mild ill effects all the way up to 110 degrees.

Thus, with smart use of yucca juice, shade, and oases it should be very manageable to stay within the range of 97 - 106 degrees and not have to change clothing all the time.

COLD
40 degrees to 30 degrees
Thermometer icon appears on screen to help you track the temperature. Your avatar will make "brrrr" sounds to show that it is cold but there is no penalty at all. You do not need to try and keep your temperature above 40 degrees.

30 degrees to 20 degrees
The Snowflake icon appears on screen so that you know that you are freezing and will have to eat food more often. Your avatar continues to make sounds related to being cold but as long as you have plenty of food there is no need to rush to add clothing or alter your playstyle.

20 degrees to 10 degrees
At this point you lose food and stamina. You will get messages pleading with you to get warm using clothing, shelter, and a fire.

10- degrees
At this point you lose hydration, stamina, and health until you die.

Play in the snow biome by maintaining a temperature range of 38 - 15 degrees which is totally doable using a fireplace strategically and getting to shelter when necessary.

Harvesting
Harvesting is a new mechanic in 7 Days to Die that was introduced in A13. It allows you to harvest many many things in the world and give you better rewards then just smashing the items for scrap.

Decayed Sedan
* You can Harvest it with a Wrench.
* You hit it like you normally would with the LMB
* You will see it make a different animation and you will start receiving parts in your inventory.
* Cars have 3 stages of breaking down now and give slightly different chances on items being harvested:
** Undamaged cars will give Scrap Iron, Leather, and rarely, random quality Small Engine and Lead Car Battery. Quality is not based on level.
** Damaged cars will give Scrap Iron, Spring, occasionally Oil, and rarely Brass Car Radiator.
** Frame cars will give Scrap Iron, Short Iron Pipe, Gas Can, and rarely Headlight.
* It doesn't matter where you stand to harvest the car (front/back/left/right side) you get the same chances.

Air Conditioner
* You can Harvest an AC unit with a Wrench.
* It has one break down stage and will reward you with Scrap Iron and Short Iron Pipes.

Animals
* You can Harvest any animal and receive Animal Hides, Meat, Animal Fat, and Large Bone
* You can use any blade-class weapons to harvest animal, such as Bone Shiv, Machete, Hunting Knife, and even Fireaxe.

Oven
* Ovens can be harvested with a Wrench
* When you Harvest them you get Scrap Cable and Scrap Iron

Toilet
*Toilets can be harvested with a Wrench
* When you Harvest them you get Short Iron Pipe and Scrap Iron

Player Wetness
The player can get wet by moving through water volumes in the world or by being exposed to some Weather as rain or snow overtime.

To remove wetness:
* Must be inside an entirely closed space or 5-10 blocks away from open window/roof/door.
* Your temperature need to be more than 40 for wetness to gradually decrease. Being close to fire won't affect wetness, only your temperature.
* Multiple campfire/forge heating effect doesn't stack. Having 2 or more campfires/forges won't remove wetness faster nor will it increase temperature faster.

A house made of non-upgraded wood frames is considered a closed space even though zombie can still see you. Snow can also be used to make a closed space.
A good strategy against snow biome before you have a base is to create a shovel and dig underground every time your wetness starts to accumulate or temperature starts to go below 45 and build a campfire. This way lumberjacks won't see you while you're waiting for your wetness to go down.

Heat Map
Some actions will generate "Heat" in the players area. Every chunk (~50*50 m^2) has a heat level. Over time the heat level decreases. But if the level is high enough some Screamers will investigate. If they find the player, they will screech and call a horde of zombies.

It is important to know that the term heat in this instance does not mean actual heat, as in thermal energy. Rather it references a "heat map", a "graphical representation of data where the individual values contained in a matrix are represented as colors.". It may be easier to think of it as "activity level." The higher the activity level, the more attention one gets from zombies.

Actions that increase the heat level:
*Explosions
*Weapon fire noise
*Cooking
*Smelting
*Chopping trees
*Mining
*Building huge structures
*Killing and harvesting animals
*Fighting zombies

Because it takes time for heat levels to dissipate and because the action of fighting zombies also generates heat, it is possible to get caught in a vicious (or virtuous, depending on your goal) cycle in which screamers continue to spawn and investigate and call more hordes as you continue to fight to eliminate them. Leveraging this is one way to generate a high zombie kill-count.

Quality System & Leveled Crafting
As of Alpha 11, 7DTD now features a quality system related to almost all gear and weapons, both crafted and looted.

Item Quality Levels
The quality system has six levels:
Color
Quality
Item Level
style="background-color:#808080;"|Grey
Broken
0
style="background-color:#9C8867;"|Brown
Faulty
1 - 99
style="background-color:#CF7F29;"|Orange
Poor
100 - 199
style="background-color:#CBD52C;"|Yellow
Good
200 - 299
style="background-color:#42C234;"|Green
Fine
300 - 399
style="background-color:#315DCE;"|Blue
Great
400 - 499
style="background-color:#A42ACC;"|Magenta
Flawless
500+

Gun Quality
Gun Parts follow the same quality system, but average the gun quality across all parts. A pistol with 2 Flawless pieces of 600 Quality each and 2 Fine pieces of 300 Quality each will make a Pistol with a quality of 450. After implementing this in Alpha 11, Players can take all the parts from a disassembled gun as opposed to previously only being allowed to take one piece of the gun when disassembling and losing the other pieces, and easily replace a lower quality piece with a higher one once acquired. It is not uncommon to find a Faulty gun with one or 2 pieces of Great/Flawless parts, so it is advised to always check by disassembling the gun in the crafting grid output box before outright scrapping/discarding the gun.

Leveled Crafting
A13

As of Alpha 13, the quality of crafted items is based on the character's skill level progression and not the character's level anymore. Each skill level gives your item 6 more quality point than previous level and at level 100 you craft item at 600 quality. The game also track level progression which you can't see, but the quality of the item will increase by 1 for each 16% increase in level progression. For example, your skill of weapon making is 20 and you just leveled up, you will craft wooden club at 6*20 = 120 quality point. If you craft 3-4 more wooden clubs, you will notice that the quality becomes 121 instead of 120, although your skill level is still at 20. This is because you have reached 16% of level progression from 20->21

The number of items crafted needed to level up increases exponentially the higher your skill level is. For example, below is a table and chart for stone axe requirement to increase tool smithing.

Skill Level !! Quality Level !! Approx Stone Axe Needed !! Total Stone Axe Crafted
0-17 || 0-100|| 320 || 320
18-33 || 100-200|| 410 || 730
34-50 || 200-300|| 562 || 1290
50-67 || 300-400|| 780 || 2070
68-83 || 400-500 || 1100 || 3170
84-100 || 500-600 || 1570 ||4740

The best strategy to increase any crafting-based skill is to spend some time gathering resources during the day and craft during the night.
* Tool crafting: stone axe (2 wood, 2 stones, and 2 grass). Stone axe can be used for fuel.
* Weapon crafting: arrows (1 stone, 1 feather, 1 wood) and wooden club (5 wood). Like stone axe, wooden club can be used as campfire/forge fuel afterwards. Wooden clubs requirement is 1.5x stone axe (therefore need ~7k wooden clubs crafted to reach max skill level)
* Clothing: any plant fiber armor (scrap it afterwards so you get plant fiber back)
* Leather: any animal hide armor
* Gun smithing: unlike other skills, gun smithing might be something you want to level manually using skill points as it is very expensive to level: It takes double-triple the amount of gunpowder-based ammo to be crafted compared to tool craft leveling with stone axe (3 gunpowder-based ammo ~ 1 stone axe, therefore referring to the table above, 600-900 gunpowder is required from skill level 0-17). Therefore, almost 15k gun powders are needed to raise your gunsmithing to 600.

Note: The best place to get grass is the desert, because each cactus give you 20 grass and these are not difficult to harvest. It's also the best place to gather feathers because bird nests are more abundant and you can see them easily due to the lack of grass on the ground.

To increase hitting-based skill (e.g. construction tools, mining, blade, or blunt) get some dirts and at night put the dirt in your base and hit repeatedly with cheapest of the item class you want to level. For example, use stone axe for construction tools, stone shovel for mining tool, bone shiv for blade weapon, and wooden club for blunt (It's advisable to increase the appropriate skill in crafting these items first so the durability won't be very low, especially if you're early in game and bone isn't easy to get). The reason for using dirt is so you can put it back after it's displaced.

A12

The quality of crafted items is based on the character's level. The system takes the player's level and multiplies it by 10, then adds or subtracts up to 50 from that value:
* (Level*10) ± (<= 50) = Item Quality

For example, a level 17 player can craft items with a quality rating as low as 120 (170-50) or as high as 220 (170+50). More on calculations here.

The following items are not included in the quality system, crafted or looted, and appear with a good (yellow) quality:

* Mining Helmet
* Gardening Hoe
* Repair Tool
* Claw Hammer
* Nailgun
* Chainsaw

This extensive guide assumes that you are playing the game on the default preset Nomad with the Game Mode set to Survival SP unless specified and have little or no experience of playing 7 Days to Die. If it's your first time playing, here's a First Steps guide.

Description
7 Days to Die is an open world horde survival/crafting game and there are many ways to play it. Below you can find useful advice that an inexperienced player could follow.

Terminology
* Zombies refers to all NPC enemies.
* Specials can refer to all special enemies and hostile animals. These include the Spider Zombie, Bear, Zombie Bear, Zombie Dog, Hornet, Feral Zombie, Screamer and Infected Police Officer.
* Early Game is a loose term often used to refer to the time around when a player has just started in a world, it is also referred to as the 'Primitive Stage'.
* Mid Game is a loose term to refer to the time around when a player has established a safe place to stay overnight, in addition to a good supply of resources and sufficient weaponry.
* Late Game is a loose term to refer to the time around when a player is nearly fully self-sustained and can pretty much deal with any threat without much trouble.
* End Game refers to when a player has a well defended fortress and is completely self-sustained, when players prefer to begin raid runs on other players in Survival MP.

Controls
The controls used to play 7 Days to Die are a combination of keyboard keys, the mouse and mouse buttons. all keys can be re-assigned using the Controls tab found in the Options tab on the main menu of the game. from there you can change the key bindings, adjust the mouse sensitivity and invert the mouse control if desired.

* Mouse
: Used to control the character's point of view. This allows the player to look around in all directions. In addition to being used to turn left or right while moving either forward or backwards with the W and S keys.
* W, A, S, D Keys
: Used to control the player's character's forward, backward and sideways movement. W is used to move forward, S is used to move backwards, A is used to move sideways to the left and D is used to move sideways to the right.
* Space Bar
: Used to jump. the player's character can jump a minimum of 1 block high. It is possible to use jump to climb 2 blocks at once, by moving towards the 2 block high structure and jumping.
* Left-Shift Key
: Used to sprint. This increases your speed and allows you to even outrun Zombie Dogs, but decreases your Stamina.
* Ctrl Key
: Used to crouch. This is a toggle key whereby pressing it once will make the character crouch and pressing it again will cause them to stand up. In addition to activating the Stealth System. The player will also be able to move their character around silently and make less sound when searching containers. Although searching containers while using stealth will take more time. Whilst undetected the player has chance at activating a sneak attack if they hit a Zombie. This will double the amount of damage given by the attack.
* C Key
: Used to crouch. this works exactly the same way as the Ctrl Key, however it does not toggle and the player will need to hold it down to keep their character crouched.
* Left Mouse Button
: Used to activate an item's secondary effect.
:* For melee weapons and tools, left clicking causes a swing which is either used to damage zombies and to break blocks.
:* For placeable blocks, left clicking will rotate them.
:* For Pipe Bombs and Small Stones, holding the Left Mouse Button down will power up the strength the projectile will be thrown at.
: Swinging a Tool or Weapon whether hitting something or not will drain your Stamina.
* Right Mouse Button
: Used to activate an item's primary effect.
:* For consumables like food and medicine, this action will consume one unit.
:* For Pipe Bombs it will ignite the fuse, but don't forget to use the Left Mouse Button to throw them!
:* For blocks or traps, this action places them at the cross-hair on the selected area.
:* For firearms and the Crossbow, right clicking will allow the player to aim down sight for greater accuracy. However, while the Weapon is aimed down the sight the player's characters movement will become very slow.
* E Key
: Used to open a Door or search a container. Holding down the E Key over player crafted Doors or Chests will activate the option icons used to lock or unlock it and to input, create or change the Doors password. however these options are only available to the creator of the Door or chest.
* R Key
: Used to reload a Weapon. Holding down with some Weapons will show a wheel menu to load alternate ammunition types. When searching a Loot container the R key allows you to take everything at once. This, however, causes more noise than removing the contents piece by piece.
* Tab Key
: Used to open the inventory giving access to the crafting menu, Character Menu or friends Tab depending on which one is selected.
* M Key
: Used to open and close the Map_Menu. On the bottom right of the Map_Menu there are two icons used to control the level of zoom. It will also display a pale green tent shaped marker. This is the point where the player has placed An Old Bed or a Sleeping Bag as a spawn point, provided one has been placed. If the game setting Show Friends Icon is enabled friends will be shown on the map as bright green triangles.
* Q Key
: Used to drop the currently selected object from the Toolbelt, or if a stack is selected it will drop one out of the stack. This key can be dangerous if accidentally pressed.
* F Key
: Used to switch on/off the Flashlight.
* Mouse scroll
: Used to control Weapon and Map_Menu zoom or to cycle the Toolbelt. Also, while aiming down the sight of a hunting rifle or snipers rifle, using the Mouse scroll allows you zoom the scope in and out, the same goes for the Map_Menu. Using the Mouse scroll while not aiming down the sight of a Weapon or using the map will allow you to cycle through the Toolbelt to select a desired slot.
* I Key
: Used to show other players and their statistics. Essentially a scoreboard that will give you information regarding the players currently on the server, Zombie kills, player kills, deaths, score and ping.

First Steps
It is recommended to play the prefab map Navezgane for beginners. If you die too often, turn down the zombie spawn setting or other difficulty settings, or turn the zombies off completely to learn the game without too much trouble. For beginners, anything higher than "Low" spawn settings are likely to be too overwhelming as large groups of zombies may spawn around a player in the open, causing the player to become trapped as the zombies tighten their circle.

The First Day
Immediately begin to pick up Small Stones, punch trees and bushes for Wood, and grass for Plant Fibers. Once you have at least two of each, you can press the Tab key to open the game inventory and crafting menu. Either under the tools section or the basics section, select Stone Axe then above the inventory grid, click the white Craft text under the Stone Axe icon to craft this tool.
With your new Stone Axe you can begin harvesting Wood and Small Stones much more efficiently. Cutting down trees and hitting rocks/boulders will yield these resources while degrading the durability of the axe. Make sure to craft a new Stone Axe instead of repairing, as repairing tools can diminish their quality and you get more experience towards the relevant skills by actually crafting, not repairing. Materials should not be a problem once you have your first axe.

For a limited time after you spawn for the first time in your game, or on a server in Survival MP, no zombies will spawn around you. Use this time wisely to recon your area and gather as many starting resources and loot as possible. If you are caught off guard, your Stone Axe can be used in a pinch as a cutting weapon. Its strikes can sometimes dismember zombies. However, a better starting weapon - and an item that you should make as soon as possible - is the Wooden Bow, which you will need Wood and Plant Fibers to craft. A single Arrow will cost 1 Small Stone, 1 Wood and 1 Feather. Make sure to craft plenty of Arrows, 30 or more, to defend yourself. IF you prefer melee combat, you can craft a Wooden Club, but ranged combat is preferable unless feathers are scarce.

Sometimes you don't even need to finish off a zombie; stunning a zombie and sprinting away is also a viable strategy, although you will not be able to loot its corpse. As they say, discretion is the better part of valor.

Cloth Fragments can be crafted from Cotton Plant, which you can use to make cloth armor and a Sleeping Bag which will act as your respawn point if you die.

If you spawned somewhere cold, it is a good idea to use the Plant Fibers you are collecting to craft basic plant fiber clothing. A full set includes Plant Fiber Pants, Plant Fiber Boots, a Plant Fiber Shirt, Plant Fiber Gloves, and a Plant Fiber Hood. These offer insulation from the cold as well as protection from various forms of damage. Armor can be crafted from various resources such as Cloth Fragments, Animal Hide, Leather, Scrap Metal and Forged Iron. Cloth, Animal Hide and Leather offer insulation from the cold as well as physical protection from damage. The metal armors give a negative insulation bonus, which cools you off instead, and is more suitable for moderate to hot/arid areas.

Using a Wooden Bow you should practice shooting Arrows at animals like the Pig, Chicken, Rabbit and Stag as these are non-hostile and will flee. If you manage to kill one, cut it with your Stone Axe to get Raw Meat and Large Bones. These bones can be crafted into the primitive knife Bone Shiv, which gives a more plentiful harvest than your axe. The Bone Shiv is a useful stabbing/cutting weapon if you find yourself in close quarters with zombies, though it has very little to no stun value.

As you move around and gather basic supplies, do not forget to check rubbish and trash piles, abandoned cars, tree stumps and backpacks that may be scattered around the area, these provide ample amounts of loot and you can quite easily acquire a gun or an iron/steel tool straight away.

On the very first day, there are a few different options for a player to choose from:
# Rely on what nature provides and build a small shelter for the night out of Wood or Sod Block
# Find an existing building, preferably an isolated one as zombie spawns are much lower in these areas than in towns
# Find a cave

1: Rely on what nature provides
When you have sufficient amounts of wood, you can begin to craft Wood Frames. Try to make your first shelter as small as possible so that you can still place a Secure Storage Chest and Camp Fire inside while you shelter from the night or weather. Do not forget to craft a Wooden Door, these can be locked to help prevent players in Survival MP just walking into your shelter and stealing your supplies. Although it is tempting to save your cooking and crafting for night, be sure to conserve activity and light to avoid curious guests.

2: Find an existing building
As you move about, instead of building your own shelter, try and locate an existing building such as a burnt cabin or a metal shed. These structures save you considerable amounts of time and resources if you can find one, and tend to offer more overall protection on your first night. If you locate one such place of interest, make sure to use your Stone Axe to fortify any windows, doors and walls that look weak. Zombies will happily jump onto a window sill and smash inside as these are the weakest points. With any extra Wood you may have, craft some Wood Spikes and place them around the exterior of your new shelter. This will weaken and slow down zombies, maybe even crippling them into a crawl! Much easier to deal with that way.

Keep in mind, however, that over the long term, prefabricated buildings offer much less protection than a player-built base. After the first couple of nights, you should begin building a base nearby to move into once complete.

Try to avoid bunkering down in a town. Zombies will spawn more spread out here, but they are much more plentiful, and make trips outside the player's base hazardous. Zombies may be waiting to ambush you around every corner if you have not cleared the town out, and often the harder Specials spawn in these locales.

If you are absolutely desperate, Pass n' Gas, double story stores and anything with a rooftop area accessible via a ladder can be a godsend. Just remain crouched for the entirety of the night to avoid detection.

3: Find a cave
If all else fails and you find a cave entrance, hide inside it. Beware however, zombies can and do spawn inside caves. And while caves force Zombies to funnel in from only one or two directions, this also applies to you... you can easily become trapped inside a cave by only a few zombies. The dark may also conceal dangerous pitfalls.

The First Night
22:00 is when dusk ends and night begins. It may be too late to leave a town or city if you are in one when this time hits. If so, simply try and find a nice hole to hide in and use chairs or Wood Frames to block entrances.

Do not risk running outside at night time unless you absolutely have to. Zombies may not run faster than you, but they do not get tired like you do and will quickly outnumber and outlast you. Stay inside your shelter and remain crouched to avoid detection as much as possible. The night can be the best time to begin mass crafting various supplies, such as ammunition like Arrows, medical supplies like Bandages and anything else you may need to survive the next day. However, the more you craft, cook, smelt and make noise (moving around while not crouched, building, repairing and fighting) the more your particular area will attract zombies and the more likely they are to spawn around you.

Even if a zombie begins to hunt you, do not panic and flee; simply fight it off using arrows or melee while crouched. Often if you can kill it quickly, you may not get detected by other zombies and can resume safely hiding until dawn.

Usually the first night isn't very dangerous, most veteran players can run around at night time with little trouble, it is a good idea to utilize the time wisely as it allows you to get a lot of stuff done that you may not otherwise be able to multitask very well when scavenging or gathering. As the days go on, however, nighttime becomes progressively more deadly.

Dawn is at 06:00. Usually, music plays to signify the rising of the sun, when zombies slow back down to a walk from their manic sprinting. It is safer to exit at this time and begin gathering more resources or scavenging for supplies elsewhere. Try to leave the immediate area of your shelter if you want to do a lot of crafting or other activities, so that your base will not generate attention on the zombie AI's heat map. A few zombiesin the open during the day can be easily avoided or picked off, whereas zombies at your shelter may damage your defenses before you deal with them.

Next steps
* It is a good idea to spend the entirety of the second day gathering food supplies, preferably canned goods or fresh berries, Corn and Potatoes. Blueberries spawn prominently in the snow biomes and corn in the plains, while potatoes must be found in kitchen cupboards or fridges. Water can be collected in empty metal cans: hold them in your hand and right click when standing over or in water to fill the cans. Then you can boil them on a campfire. This is the easiest and safest way to gather water from nature, and only requires Empty Cans and a Camp Fire. Note, however, that this Canned Water has a 10% chance of giving you Dysentery, and does not stack. Bottled Water can be obtained in the same fashion once the player has a Cooking Pot, and the abundance of jars and cooking pots make it a good choice to switch to Bottled Water as soon as the player has established themselves adequately.
* Now you can either choose a place to settle and start building a base, or you can become nomadic, roaming around scavenging and looting. Both options are fine. For more detailed information about both play-styles check the following guides:
:Nomadic Play-style
:Settler Play-style
* When scavenging, your character will eventually run into zombies. The amount will depend on the spawn rate setting. Look for areas marked with buildings on the map areas like Diersville and Gravetown as these are chock full of loot, but they are also hot spots for zombies. Using the stealth option should keep your character safe enough while you are scavenging. Food and water tend to be found in cupboards and in the kitchen area. Certain weapons can be found in munition boxes, and others inside gun safes, desk safes and wall safes. Other miscellaneous loot is usually found in other containers. Be sure to check any suitcase you should find, as these are currently the only places a Flashlight can be found, other than on the dead body of a Bloated Walker or in a Hollow Tree Stump.

Combat Tips
* Try not to engage zombies in combat unless you are absolutely sure you will not be surrounded and beat down. Observe zombies from a safe distance to determine if their behaviour is erratic or calm, erratic zombies tend to throw their heads around a lot and also cover their head with their arms from time to time during such episodes, thus shielding themselves from direct headshots.
* Even a small group of zombies can kill an unwary player. Zombies' attacks can stun the player, and multiple zombies attacking at once can effectively "stun-lock" a survivor, making it very hard to fight back or excape.
* Zombies that are running tend to move in a zigzag manner in addition to circling around you, making them more difficult to hit. Each weapon has different properties, and reading the article for any particular weapon will explain how to best use it for combat. For a current list browse the article Weapons.
* Your stone axe is not a weapon. Craft an Iron Reinforced Club and/or a Wooden Bow A.S.A.P.
* To maximize damage output on players or Zombies, make sure to land any melee or ranged attacks on the target's head. Even if it does not outright kill a zombie, it will deal much more damage than if you hit their torso or arms. Ranged weapons are best used to quickly and safely dispatch threats at medium range, while melee weapons such as the Barbed Club are better used in disabling or stunning zombies so you can safely escape or put some distance between yourself and your target.
* When a zombie is knocked down and Stunned, do not waste ammunition on it. Simply melee its head. Cutting tools work best but a blunt tool will also suffice. You do three times as much damage to a Stunned target so make sure to use this time appropriately to finish off any threats if you can't simply escape.
* When engaging a zombie or player in melee combat, make sure to dodge toward and back from a zombie. Try to time your strikes as you are approaching the zombie, and quickly back away (holding the sprint key, default is Shift) to minimize the risk of being hit yourself. Sidestepping can also work but is much more risky, and unadvised. When engaged with a zombie, you can use melee to break the zombie's legs and turn them into a slow moving crawler so you can easily finish them off or escape.

Firearms
As you explore further you will discover firearms and ammunition along the way. These weapons are very effective at killing zombies - far better than the bow, or any melee weapons - but their noise can and will attract Zombies to your location. Each type of firearm requires a specific type of Ammunition and will only accept the correct type. Always aim for the head; you will quickly take down any zombie will minimal damage to their head.
* Shotguns are a powerful short range Weapon, however they will not do as much damage should any of their Buckshot fail to hit the target. When using one, you will need to be sure of your headshot accuracy.
* Sniper Rifles and Hunting Rifles are much more capable of effective long-range fire, delivering enough damage to even destroy blocks from a distance with only a few hits - and most zombies with a single well-placed bullet.
* Pistols are the weakest firearms, and can even be weaker than some melee weapons. It will take several body shots or a couple head shots to take down an average zombie. However, their value should not be underestimated, especially as their ammunition is plentiful, and distancing yourself from the Zombies, making it a fair choice for a skirmishing weapon during looting trips, or when in a tight spot.
* Although they are not firearms, Crossbow and Wooden Bow have been included in the following table, as they are ranged weapons. They can be used as effectively as other firearms and draw a comparison with the need for Ammunition. It is wise to craft a Wooden Bow as early as possible. Not only are they silent when fired, they use an Arrow as ammunition with the items required to craft them both plentiful and easy to obtain.
* The table below show the compatible ammunition for each weapon. The table below doesn't include the alternative ammunition for the wooden bow, crossbow, or shotguns. These ammunition types are later game weapons but are powerful alternative to rarer weapons and ammo.

Melee Weapons
A melee weapon is used at short range for close quarter combat. There is a selection of weapons and tools that can used in this manner. However, the individual effectiveness of a given tool or melee can vary greatly. For the purpose of this guide the effectiveness relates to how quickly the weapon or tool will kill an average Zombie.
* An Auger and Chainsaw are amongst the most effective, provided you have the required Gas to operate one.
* A Torch and Household Flashlight are amongst the least effective, making them a bad choice of melee weapon.
* Having a high entity damage value a Sledgehammer is one of the most effective melee weapons available. Furthermore it is able to deliver enough damage in one head shot to kill the majority of Zombies.
*Combined with the use of the stealth system a Hunting Knife can be used extremely effectively when use to launch a sneak attack.
* <s>The table below shows a star in the effectiveness column, this is a simple scale from one to five. The least effective items will sit at one star and the most effective will sit at five stars. The table allows an at-a-glance check of how effective a particular tool or weapon is against a Zombie.</s>
Basic Building
Night time is a nightmare. If you notice the clock coming up to 22:00 hours, it's time to find or build a safe place/shelter. Night time will last until anywhere from 4:00-10:00 hours, depending on how long a standard day/night cycle is set to.
* Gather wood! The more the better. If you don't scavenge a Fireaxe early in the game, craft a Stone Axe. Its components are very easy to acquire from pretty much anywhere in Navezgane.
* Make Wood Frames and upgrade them using the Stone Axe into their stronger variants. This gives you a decent fortification. Supplement them with more wood or scrap metal to make them tougher (Note that after upgrading frames into their stronger variants you will be unable to pick them back up).
* Gather rocks! These are collected as Small Stones.. As soon as you have a small number, craft a Camp Fire. Keep a few small stones handy as they can be used to repair a Stone Axe.
* If you find yourself close to a city or other buildings, search for one that is made of brick. Brick buildings are stronger and buy you more time.
* Windows may look good, but they can be broken easily. Zombies can also see through a window to find a Survivor.
* For a base, you'd want a place that is easy to build on. Flat areas are best, Spillway Lake and the Desert have lots of good flat areas for building. Another good option is to start with a pre-existing building. Common factors for choosing a location for a base are their proximity to water, loot-able towns, and/or wild game.
* Try to start with a smaller base, larger bases require a staggering amount of time and resources to build. It is better to start small and then expand when needed. This will also give multiple layers of defense to fall back on when the hordes start knocking.
* Leave some openings in your walls so that you can actually attack zombies. You can also build access to the rooftop to shoot zombies from above.
* Blocks won't stack on fresh air, you need solid ground or surface to build on. If your buildings aren't well supported, they will most likely fall during a siege.
* A way to keep zombies from reaching your shelter is to dig a moat or trench at least 3 blocks deep. This causes them to fall in, making them easy targets for a head shot. Traps can also be placed inside the trenches.
* Surface bases are vulnerable to most attacks and require extensive defenses. However, it is relatively easy to expand outwards and allows players to have a good sight radius.
* Underground bases are extremely easy to defend, but takes a long time to build. They also require much more time when expanding. However, they are pretty much worth the effort, as players can remain virtually undetected inside underground bases.
* Its a good idea to create a tunnel into your base from 10+ blocks outside of it. Provides a great way to run from hordes when you're surrounded. Most zombies will not try to enter via this if doors are used. A single block layer of earth will work well too.
* Night time is a great time to sort your inventory and craft if there is no immediate danger.

Surviving
* If any blocks in your shelter become damaged, repair them using a Stone Axe, Wrench, Claw Hammer or Nailgun by holding the right mouse button (by default). This will consume relevant resources such as Wood for wood blocks, Scrap Metal for scrap metal blocks or upgrading wood to armored wood.
* Reinforce your wood walls with an appropriate repair tool. Wood blocks can be upgraded repeatedly, experiment with Wood, Scrap Metal and Forged Iron.
* Try and keep at least one axe tool, pickaxe tool and knife as these come in handy all the time while scavenging during the day and can be useful last resort weapons.
* Use your time wisely. Day time is best spent travelling and scavenging supplies or foraging/gathering. Night time is best used for crafting and building/fortifying. Mining can be done at day or night, it is just as dangerous at either time of the day, but doing it at night if you do not need to craft or lack the resources is also a good use of time, it also helps to do it at night as other players are less likely to be moving around to hear your mining.
* When leaving your shelter, only take what you need, a single firearm, a wooden bow, some tools, medical supplies and a single ration of food and water are all you need. This way if you do die, you won't lose a great deal, it also means you have a lot more room to store supplies as you find them or gather them.

Water
Hydration is key, drinking water will give you a small boost of stamina. Hydration depletes rapidly as you move around, sprinting also decreases it quickly. Under the temperature survival system, the climate temperature will also affect how fast your hydration decreases. Staying in cooler areas or shade will help minimize any loss of hydration, while moving around the desert is a quick way to become dehydrated.

Tips:
* Only drink water straight from the source if you are literally dying of dehydration as you are more than likely to get Dysentery, which in Stage 1 and 2 can only be cured by Vitamins and Goldenrod Tea. If it advances any further, only the rare Antibiotics can cure it. Having Dysentery can be worse than a ordinary infection!
* Murky Canned Water can be boiled without any cooking tools on a Camp Fire.
* Murky Bottled Water can only be boiled on a Camp Fire if you have a Cooking Pot.
* Some canned foods and fresh foods will hydrate you, such as Mushrooms.

Food
Hunger increases gradually as you perform actions just like hydration, but is not affected by the climate.
Eating any food will decrease your hunger, but be aware that food like Rotting Flesh, Old Sham Sandwich and Moldy Bread will also very likely give you Food Poisoning and often has an immediate impact on your health and wellness.

Canned foods are the easiest way to sate your hunger. However, they do not increase your wellness and do not contain any other health benefits. Some even dehydrate you slightly, so make sure to check the information in your inventory before consuming it.

Fresh food such as Blueberries and Corn grow in the wild and can be eaten for a very small boost of hydration and decrease in hunger. You can also cook these into other, more useful food items such as Corn Bread and Blueberry Pie which are healthy food items.

Fresh meat can be obtained from any wild animal when you gut them with a knife tool such as the Bone Shiv, including Zombie Bears but not from Zombie Dogs. this meat needs to be cooked at a Camp Fire before consumption. You can cook Charred Meat, Boiled Meat and Grilled Meat, where boiled meat requires a Cooking Pot as well as a bottle of water for each piece of meat and grilled meat requires a Cooking Grill but is healthier than Charred Meat.
Raw or cooked, meat smells and this attracts zombies, make sure to store meat in a container as quickly as possible to remain undetected.

Tips:
*Food is essential. Keep an eye out for Stags, Pigs, Chickens and Rabbits. Then all you need to cook the meat is a Camp Fire and fuel to burn.
**It is easiest to kill game early on with the easily crafted Wooden Bow. If you attack while undetected, you will gain a damage multiplier (just like with zombies) that should help take down animals faster.
**Note that animal meat will have a smell range that may attract zombies. This range can be reduced by keeping the food in your bag as opposed to your belt, and by cooking it.
**The charred meat will deplete your Hydration level, so try to obtain some Canned Water or Bottled Water.
**Wild animals also suffer from the bleeding debuff like players do, you may only need to hit a deer with two arrows and just follow it until it dies of blood loss!
*You will need a Cooking Pot to make the most advanced recipes, such as Goldenrod Tea and Meat Stew. You will likely find a Cooking Pot as loot before you gain the ability to craft one.
*You will likely find a number of Eggs. If you are not starving, you should save these to make the highly nutritious Bacon and Eggs with a Cooking Grill.
**It is not recommended to eat them raw, as they give little increase to fullness and cause negative effects.
**You can boil eggs to remove the negative effects. However, the boost to fullness is still not much more than a raw egg, and requires a Bottled Water.
*Don't eat Moldy Bread; save it for making Antibiotics later.
*You should not eat any food that causes food poisoning, including raw meat and eggs, Moldy Bread, Old Sham Sandwich, and Rotting Flesh. Try to find a better food source before fullness becomes a problem.
*Be sure to check the kitchen area in houses as they often contain some food. Note that getting to them early on might be risky.
**Refrigerators could contain Bottled Water and Meat Stew.
**Canned food and Coffee is commonly found in cupboards.
**Sinks often hold useful items such as Short Iron Pipes and Glass Jars, sometimes even a Wrench.
**The Oven is known to be a good place to find a Cooking Pot, essential in the cooking of boiled food.
*Growing crops is a multi-day plan (see Farming). If you intend to stay around in a specific area it might be a good plan to create a vegetable farm for corn, coffee, goldenrod and cotton.

Other Helpful Tips
* Don't waste your gun ammo too soon, there are other ways of killing zombies.
* Always aim for a head shot with the pistol, but if you have a Shotgun, torso shots are just as effective and are easier to land while being further away than if you aimed at the head.
* You can lure a group of Zombies to a car or Oil Barrel and shoot it, causing it to explode. This will kill any Zombies standing close by. However, in some cases the ammo used to explode a car may be more than the ammo used to kill the Zombies.
* Buildings tend to have Zombies inside; others can be found in the vicinity. The more urban the area, such as cities, the more Zombies. Use sneak to bypass them.
* Don't enter a building if you spot a number of Zombies about outside!
* If you can't lure zombies out easily, don't waste time trying. Search the surrounding area instead.
* Take all you can find then run away as fast as you possibly can.
* Prioritize certain resources over others that are already common so as to save inventory space.
* Gun Safes, Desk Safes and Munitions Boxs are prized containers. Furthermore they tend to contain the best loot in the game - Weapons.
* Note that it is not important to have a large amount of the same weapon, what is important is the Ammunition it requires and Weapon Repair Kits to keep it in first-rate condition.
* If you enter a light green area, it means you are exiting the Navezgane map and you will take damage if you continue in that direction; this is the Nuclear Fallout Zone. (Does not apply to Random World Generation.)
* Don't waste too much space storing water, a stack of fifteen Bottled Water or Boiled Water is more than enough for any outing.
* Should you fail to find a gun, craft a Wooden Bow. It is effective, if a bit crude.

Game Stages
Though not an official term, Game Stages depict the stage of the game a player is in, which is less of an 'experience meter' but more of a 'progress meter'.

Early Game
Early game is when the player's Character has just spawned for the first time with simple starting items on their Toolbelt: Bottled Water, Bandages, Can of Chili and Keystone (Multi-player) are provided. Players are typically found scavenging at this point, looking for any useful resources and weapons. At this level of game play, death is common and contact with Zombies is kept to a minimum.

* Resource level

Players in the early game are recommended to minimize contact with Zombies and to start hoarding resources for base construction. Some players can opt to go for the nomadic approach, getting just enough resources to build small outposts and keeping the rest of the slots for valuable loot, all the while moving across the map.

Early Game tips
* The Stone Axe is the all-purpose tool that can do practically everything: dig (dirt, sand and snow), mine (stone), chop (wood) or kill (enemies). Be sure to build this as soon as possible.
* A13 has introduced environmental hazards (overheating and Freezing) and depending on where a survivor starts, clothing may become critical to survive harsh environments. Spawning in a snow biome when its raining however is extremely hazardous and will drain a survivors core temperature at an alarming rate, and extended periods of time in such environments can heavily debilitate or even KILL eager starters if they don't get out of there quick. Depending on where a survivor spawns, it may just be wise to get out of the current Biome/area they are in. Desert or Plains Biomes arent as bad, but the former can overheat a survivor if left unchecked so if you're having trouble in the desert try crafting a hat and a bandana as soon as possible.
* The Wooden Bow is a cheap but deadly Weapon. One shot to the head usually kills most Zombies. The bow is also a silent weapon and attracts less attention than firearms. Try to kill single zombies in melee combat before you fire to conserve ammo. In larger groups a strategy is to take out the most dangerous ones like the Bloated Walker from the distance.
* If need be, use Stone or Fertile Dirt to seal off the entrance to a building (furniture can also be used in this aspect) in order to delay Zombies. They do not last long but they can hold Zombies off for long enough for you to run or do some scavenging.
* Stamina is an important feature. Always try to keep it up. Stamina is limited by your Hydration meter.
* Players should not look to build big bases immediately - start small and then go big.
* Taking Antibiotics daily will quickly increase your Wellness Level, but be sure to have spare in case of illness.
* If you have some spare time, gather more wood and use it to make lots of clubs, or use with small stones and feathers to make more arrows. Not only will this give survivors more ammunition early game, it will also act to increase the level and quality of your weapons too! Be sure to have a chest nearby for swiftly emptying your inventory of clubs. Even as lower quality levels, you'll be able to kill zombies more effectively, and with less ammunition.

Mid Game
Mid game is when players have a decent base set up with an adequate stockpile of food and water, along with Weapons (but not necessarily the ammo). Players should be able to fend off some attacking hordes, though they are still a big problem. Mining and Farming becomes more common, but so is hunting for resources and animals (or players in Survival MP).
:*SMG, Sniper Rifle, 44 Magnum, Auger and Chainsaw.

Players in the mid-game stage are typically not constrained by anything and are free to either explore or to stay at their base. They can choose to farm resources to fortify their base, shift their base to another location, or to stake out popular scavenging areas like Gravetown, Diersville or Ghost Town.

Mid Game tips
* Keep stacks of Forged Iron handy, they are useful for repairing your tools when needed. Repairing a tool is much more cost-efficient than making a new one.
* Once you get the Reloading Weekly or the Ammunition Nation recipe books, you can start crafting Ammunition. A Forge is required, as well as some amount of brass and lead. Items that can be scrapped into these materials are fairly common loot. Shotgun Shells don't require a Forge, and are thus easier to craft.
* If you find yourself running out of stamina very quickly, try brewing some Coffee. It gives a periodic energy boost which helps keep your Stamina full.
* Consider making Corn and Potato farms so as to kick-start your Stew making.
* If your mine entrance can be accessed directly from your base, be sure to place a secure Door to act as a checkpoint, so that others can not enter your dwelling without permission should they dig into your mine.
* Store shelves are a great way to get quick Scrap Iron. Each shelf is worth 4x Scrap Iron and breaks quickly depending on your Pickaxe level.

Late Game
Late game is when players have a fort-like base set up which is difficult to break into, and becomes nearly completely independent for resources. Food, water, medicine, ammo and building supplies will be stocked to the brim, with top quality tools like the Auger and the Chainsaw in the player's hands. Sniper Rifles and SMGs will most likely be the player's most common Weapon. At this point Zombies will no longer be a problem, neither will resources. This is the stage of the game when the player has the most control of his surroundings on the Map_Menu.
Description
A PAGENAME is a type of gun part in 7 Days to Die. It is used to craft a Pump Shotgun or a Sawed off Shotgun. A PAGENAME can be melted in the forge or scrapped for Scrap Iron by clicking "Scrap'.

Uses
The PAGENAME is used to create the following items:
: Pump Shotgun
: Sawed off Shotgun

How To Obtain
* Looted from certain containers.
* Dismantle a Pump Shotgun or a Sawed off Shotgun using the Assemble feature.
** Spawning it in directly via the Creative Menu

Forge
Melting
A PAGENAME can be placed into the forge to be melted down into iron. Each PAGENAME will produce 10 units of Iron.

Assemble
A Pump Shotgun or Sawed off Shotgun can be Assembled by clicking on an of the gun parts for the weapon and clicking Assemble. from there you can add other pieces of the weapon to make a full weapon or just add piece's as you go. The gun will stay ina put together state even if it isn't complete, but you can not shoot it. This saves inventory space when looting and helps you stay organized as well.

Scrapping
A PAGENAME can be scrapped by highlighting PAGENAME and selecting 'Scrap".

A PAGENAME is a craftable item that is used to either smelt ore or Scrap items into the more usable/stackable ingot items at a Forge OR to duplicate items and parts for weapons. PAGENAMEs are unique in that they do not stack and you only ever really need one of each.

Molds are created by placing 5 "lump of Clay" items in "U" shape 2 blocks tall and 3 blocks wide centered in the middle crafting column. Iron Ingot molds are created with nothing in the gap of the "U", and the rest by placing a sample of the item to be copied in the gap with the gap positioned in the exact center of the crafting grid.
Notes
* Since alpha 11 weapon molds can no longer be crafted in survival. This is due to changes that now require all weapons to have the new Parts item associated to each weapon. Furthermore, weapon molds are also gated behind schematics that can only be obtained using the Creative Menu. However, even in creative, the player would still be unable to craft a complete set of weapon molds due to the fact that no molds exist for the new Parts item, thus, making it impossible to forge a complete set of weapon parts.
* The M-136 Rocket Launcher cannot be forged (yet).
* In order to create all molds for a gun, a player must have the same number of the gun as molds. For example, to make all pistol molds, the player will need 3 pistol to obtain all the parts.
* 2 of the 4 parts required to make a shotgun are crafted from plywood.
* Iron Ingots, Forging Metal, Scrap Iron, and Short Metal Bars can all be placed in a forge to make a Gun Part.
* The creative inventory contains several metals and molds that currently have no use, such as Copper and Aluminum.
A PAGENAME is a Canned Food that can be looted from many of the various houses and Shamway Grocery Store. As with all Canned Food a PAGENAME has the advantage of being ready to consume immediately without the need to be cooked first. Eating a PAGENAME will have a positive effect on your Fullness and Health as well as a negative effect on your Hydration. The only use for a PAGENAME is as a source of Food. After consumption the player will have an Empty Can added to their inventory providing there is sufficient space available.
PAGENAME are a craftable resource and a potential, albeit unadvised, building material used in building. PAGENAME can be crafted from the materials shown below.

Notes
As of alpha 9.3 these burn for 48 seconds, whereas individual planks only burn for 12 seconds. A simple chrysanthemum treatment therefore quadruples burn time. As of alpha 10 this is no longer the case, Red Wood Planks now have same burn time as normal planks.
Overview
PAGENAME is a basic craft able resource building material that can be found in various locations like a Gas Station, in underground caves or beside roads. It is used to craft Concrete Mix. It is also extremely useful for getting out of caves and other tight spots by using the Nerd Pole Strategy. PAGENAME is easily destroyed and with no SI all blocks placed on top will simply fall and crumble. Beware of this because they are prone to causing cave-in's and killing survivors. Because PAGENAME is necessary in the production of Concrete Mix, it is an essential component to the production of Reinforced Concrete making it a valuable resource despite its abundance and ease of acquisition.

Description
The PAGENAME is used to cook foods, boil water, create medications, and craft a few resources.It can be found in the many lodges and numerous camp sites scattered all over the map. It can be crafted using 10 Small Stones. To use it, place it down and open by pressing "E". PAGENAMEs will keep the character warm so long as they are within 3 blocks of the fire. Multiple fires within range will have stacking effects. Fires can be started without cooking anything. PAGENAMEs may set fire to a character or zombie if they walk through it while it is turned on.

Usage
Recipes are listed in alphabetical order in the left hand window. The search bar at the top left will filter recipes to include all with the same text in the name. Recipes will automatically turn white in color and sort to the top if the PAGENAME has the ingredients to make them in the character's inventory.

Recipes may require cookware (see below) to be in the PAGENAME before they can be crafted; the needed cookware for a given item will display in the top right of the center window. Cookwares are placed in the top right cells to open up additional recipes. Some recipes are gated with books that will turn white when the character has read them.

No recipe will be available until there is fuel in the fuel cells. Fuels are placed in the cells below the tool cells. The PAGENAME can be turned on either with the on/off button below the fuel, or by starting a new recipe. The PAGENAME will not turn off automatically unless all the fuel is expended.

Selecting a recipe will display the required materials. Quantity to be crafted can be selected below the item image either by typing in the qty or by pressing the left and right arrows to increase/decrease the amount by one. Pressing the right arrow with the bar will max the qty to the number of available resources from the character. Selecting the "cook" button will activate the fire, remove the materials from the character inventory, place the item in a queue in the bottom left displaying the time to craft all qty, and begin cooking the new items. Up to 4 item types can be queued at a time.

Items will output one at a time per base time until all have been crafted. When the items are completed they will dispense in the 6 output cells in the lower right window. Once one type is complete the queue will automatically move to the next type.

Cookware
The list below gives a brief overview of the different types of Cookware available for use by the player:
* - The Cooking Grill is a relatively simple utensil. Grilled food smells less than charred food and dehydrates less.
* - The Cooking Pot is a very useful utensil used to cook food of the Boiled type. This is the most versatile piece of cookware currently available. It will allow the player to cook many useful recipes in addition to boiling Bottled Murky Water to produce the purer and much safer Bottled Water.
* - The Beaker is a specialized piece of cookware used to produce Chemicals and Medicines.

Crafting
A PAGENAME is crafted from 10x Small Stone

Heat Map
Whenever you use PAGENAME it lets off heat. This heat rises until Screamer come to investigate. If you don't kill them before they scream they will summon a hoarde. The Heat signature from cooking at PAGENAME, a forge, or repairing/upgrading blocks and Harvesting will rise until it gets to 100% and the screamers are called in to investigate your location and the cycle starts again. The PAGENAME lets off heat signatures anytime fuel is burning inside of it. It is a good practice to put your PAGENAME somewhere other than your main base to avoid being harassed by the dead.
Description
A PAGENAME is a craftable item that is placed in to a Forge and used to cast Scrap Brass into a Bullet Casing. Due to the fact a PAGENAME is not affected by durability it will not suffer any damage and will last indefinitely. As with all molds it will only accept scrap items with the correct type of base material, in this case brass. For a current list of all brass based items check the page Scrap Brass. A PAGENAME cannot be scrapped, dismantled or melted in a Forge.

Usage
Along with a source of brass and a Combustible fuel, a PAGENAME is used by placing it into the Mold slot in a Forge. Once the mold has been placed into its slot the Metal slot will accept items of the correct type of material. Place the metal item you intend to melt into the Metal slot and place your fuel source into one of the three Fuel slots. The casting process will begin and the PAGENAME will be used to cast a Bullet Casing.
The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~<nowiki/>~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:
* Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
* Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding delete to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
* Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
* Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
* For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene. If a user must be reported here, please use user, preferably as the topic subject/headline.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking , or clicking on the Edit tab and scrolling to the bottom.
I have created the Template:Cleanup along with the :Category:Cleanup to help with this process. I've also posted in the community portal specifically about addressing the changes to the crafting grid in A13. Hopefully we can get some momentum going in the cleanup process.
7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Crafting ("crafting" from the main page) is inaccessible for some reason. 0verGamer (talk) 21:32, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
:The reason is that the page has an enormous number of items included in that dpl table and each line has an image which requires a size transformation. The only fix is to either break the page into several pages with smaller tables, perhaps like "craftable weapons" etc, instead of all craftable items, or perhaps simply removing the image column from the table — Game widow (talk) 18:39, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
I"m new to web dev but noticed there's a lot of lag when trying to navigate/use the wiki. I would think it has something to do with there being Javascript in the header of the pages but it appears to be up there for a reason. Anyone else notice this? And may I thinker with the code (just front end) and submit it if I find anything that can help? Again i'm just a newbie:) — dmz22136 (talk) 01:55, 25 July 2015 (UTC-5)
:Playing with the code is perfectly fine, JavaScript is based on client-side so nothing you do can cause harm to anyone but yourself at the moment. However, I believe Game widow would be best to talk to about this sort of thing, I'm fairly certain Curse would be against third-party javascript code as it can be exploited and be dangerous. If you can get it to load your own script when you visit the website, then great but I personally don't notice much lag at all, but then I'm on fibre optic. In short - Go ahead and edit the code, but don't expect the wiki to use it :) Sorry it's just the nature of JavaScript, I certainly wouldn't allow it on my sites, even if I'd read through the code vigorously. == Regarding obsolete items ==

Is it possible to code templates so that "removed items" only show up in the removed items category? It seems like it would make more sense (possibly less confusing to some) if obsolete items weren't included in the main items category. --NibKing (talk) 10:05, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
:I don't see any confusion on this. Items category meets all items (current and removed). Since Removed Items is a special type of category of Items, I think this category is properly included in Items category,so I think it's ok. --— Magneto555 (talk) 18:00, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
::I must backup Magneto here, I feel users knowing about the removed items in game is quite essential to them understanding it a bit more. Certain items have links to other ones through removed items, and even older players still use the wrong terms like Scrap Metal which is removed to refer to Scrap Iron. I feel the history is also just as important and isolating it would cause such articles to become harder to find. Unfortunately, the way the pages are coded to display content means we cannot actually isolete them even on the page into current and removed items. At least, I don't believe it is pssible, even if it is I would assume it is a lot of work for negligible benefit. Thunder Sniper (talk) 13:19, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

::While I understand the desire to keep a record of how the game used to be, it would be extremely useful if removed items were clearly labeled as such from all pages. For example, if I'm trying to decide which building material to use, I want to look at the data in the table on Building Materials and make decisions based on that, without having to visit each individual page to see which materials are still in the game. Could deprecated information be marked up? For instance, adding an asterisk and/or italics as in *Reinforced Cobblestone would be enough for those who are specifically interested in the game's current state to skip over that entry.--104.0.42.43 10:19, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
:::Yep, tables could be a good reason. As ThunderSniperSteam stated earlier, the categories are hardly linked to make it quite difficult to isolate the removed items from Category:Items, and I don't know it can mark in the table, because this is associated with a single category (Building Materials), which meets current and removed objects. I think one solution would be to insolate all removed objects within the Category:Removed Items, removing the rest of the categories from that items, then the Category:Removed Items moves to root; Category:Content. That might solve the problem of the inclusion of removed items in tables at the cost of losing that information. --— Magneto555 (talk) 11:29, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
::::To remove all categories we would need to significantly edit the infobox as well as remove the crafting grid from obsolete items. You can see an example of what this looks like on the Stick page. It's a tedious process, to say the least. --Mcwresearch (talk) 00:52, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
The video is really old (like A1-2) and it's Alpha 13. Seeing as the entire d=crafting grid has been removed theirs no need for the confusion of this video. I am working on bringing The Wiki up to date and just happen to see this. Thanks!
Cleanup Project
I have created the Wikiproject_Cleanup as a central focal point for a project to clean up and update the wiki to get inline with A13. I think it should be linked in a visible location, such as on the front page in the "Wiki News" section. Any thoughts on that?

Also, I would like to update that front page if possible but don't have the necessary rights to do so. I think it would look much better if the information on our front page were up-to-date, especially images, but certainly also the content.

Let me know how I can help with that.
Controllish (talk) 04:44, 5 February 2016 (UTC) I second this notion!
Description
A PAGENAME is a harvest-able plant which produces Potatoes. It cannot be found growing wild, but can be grown on Fertile Dirt by planting a Potato Seed. The growth of the plant progresses through 3 stages, starting from a seedling until reaching a full size mature plant. Growth stage 1 and 2 take 60 minutes each with a mature plant taking the total time of 120 minutes to fully grow. It is not possible to harvest a PAGENAME before it has fully grown.

Cultivation
To cultivate a PAGENAME the player must first acquire an Potato Seeds or a Potato, which is then crafted into Potato Seeds, in addition to a Gardening Hoe which is used for tilling the ground before planting the seeds.

Ground Preparation
A PAGENAME is grown on Fertile Dirt and if the seeds are placed upon any surface the seedling will explode after a short time. Right clicking on any Grass or Dirt area with a Gardening Hoe will allow the player to till the ground turning it into Fertile Dirt ready for use. Furthermore, if left unused, the Fertile Dirt will eventually revert back to grass allowing Tall Grass to grow.

Planting
With the seed equipped in their characters hand the player must place the cross-hair over the piece of Fertile Dirt and plant the seed using the right mouse button. Upon doing so the player will see a new PAGENAME seedling appear on the piece of Fertile Dirt. The PAGENAME is now at the start of its growth cycle.

Growth Cycle
A PAGENAME has 3 stages of growth.
Stage 1
At this stage the PAGENAME is a newly planted seedling and is represented as such by a small seedling growing from the ground.
Stage 2
Upon reaching stage 2 the PAGENAME will grow to a height of one block and will show as a juvenile plant with new shoots.

Stage 3
This is the final stage of growth for the PAGENAME and it is now ready to harvest.

Harvesting
Harvesting a PAGENAME is very simple, the player only has to move the cross-hair over the plant and the option to harvest the plant using the E key (Default) will be shown on the screen.
* Often to gain access to POI's it is easier to break the windows out and climb through the window than it is to break the door down.
* Since Zombies target doors first it's always best to gain access through a window if possible, because the zombies will have to bust the door down to get to you inside.
Eating a PAGENAME will have a positive effect on your Fullness and Health as well as a negative effect on your Gassiness and Hydration. The only use for a PAGENAME is as a source of Food.
* Other foods can give you much better benefits once they become available, so it is often not needed in the mid to late game.
