Hi There

Comments
i'd like to start off with saying i really like the newest update the game runs a lot smoother. One thing i would really like to see is allowing players to share maps with their friends/allies so it blends what area they have explore with the area that you've explored.

Is this something that you guys plan on introducing in the near future?

thanks Dan

:Hi Dan, you've come to the wiki which is not run by the official game developers but instead volunteer administrators like myself. The 7DTD forums would be the best place to post your thoguhts and they are accessible on the Steam Dicsussions page. Thanks! hello, my name is James.

I'm currently playing 7 days to die on my Xbox one, I realised that the new update has came out and it featured the new NPC trading. Ive tried tirelessly to try and find the traders on my world and I cant seem to find them after days on end of searching... all I am wondering Is that would I have to start a new game/map to have the traders spawn in or are they already in my world? I highly think that the traders are in my world already because when I click on to my journal the trader description is already there so I'm guessing they must be somewhere in the world? one more bit of evidence to back that up is that there is a dollar sign in my work inventory so I'm guessing that has something to do with the traders being in the world?? anyway thank you for taking my question into consideration any feed back or an actual explanation of this mod would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

:Hi James. I'm afraid you've come to the wiki and the best place for this would be the official forums. I've not played 7DTD on an xbox one as I don't own one but from my knowledge of how the game works, yes you will likely have to restart on a new map. This is because the map has already been generated. If you are playing RandomGen then it will have rendered very far before the radius of your current position is in 'new ground' as such a trader could be a very long way away. This is all based off my own play time on pc though. So do not quote me. Hope I have been of assistance! :Hi Zack, thanks for the report. Had a look and is a quick fix but on my phone at the moment. I'll sort it out asap unless another does before. Thanks again Thunder Sniper (talk) 10:17, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

"White River Citizen" quest didn't show up!
After I finished my basic survival quest chain it is suppose to automatically give you the "White River Citizen" quest. The problem is it didn't show up for me so I can't find any traders. What should I do?

PLAY AS SURVIVORS OR ZOMBIES
You should add the feature that when a player play online they can play as a survivor and survive the zombie apocalypse or play as any zombie type and hunt human player as food.

:Thanks for the feedback! I'm afraid we are just admins for the wiki not the game developers but please do post this suggestion in the discussions on steam! Thunder Sniper (talk) 17:19, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

When is the alpha 16 updates coming to the console???
I know that the alpha 16 update came to the pc but when is we gonna get the different traps like the blade traps, auto shotgun turrets, auto turrets, motion system, alarm, electric system, and electric fence trap.when we gonna get the feral and radioactive version of zombies for the console.

:You will have better luck getting the answer to your question if you post it in the official 7 Days To Die forums here: https://7daystodie.com/forums/. == Is there an issue with file uploading? ==

I get an error for the past few days when trying to upload a new version of a file "Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/[name of file]]". It seems to be a server-side folder permission issue. ViperGeek (talk) 07:29, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

:Hi ViperGeek, have you checked to see if the image you're uploading already exists? The name that you are using will determine this. If the file is protected then it's entirely possible that is the issue. This is unfortunately, beyond myself and Game Widow will need to look into this otherwise. Thunder Sniper (talk) 13:00, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

:: The files exist and do not seem to be protected in any way... i am talking about the the AK47/AK47 schematic/ first aid kit where i can not replace the files with newer versions. "Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/b/b0/Ak47Schematic.png". Usually there is a warning about a file being locked, but this is not the case. ViperGeek (talk) 05:14, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

:::Are you able to send me the file? I will attempt uploading a random file in place of the Ak 47 a little later on. Could be the file type or any number of problems! We'll sort it out. :::: Small update on the matter, i get the same error while trying to edit another wikis files, therefore the issue is system-wide and not limited to a random few. I do find it strange that nobody else complained about this yet ViperGeek (talk) 21:41, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Harvesting, Disassembling and Dismantling
This wiki seems to use all three terms interchangeably. Would we consider switching to just "Harvesting"? Is it OK if I start substituting it wherever I see the other two? Or, if they have different meanings, what standards would you like us to use to distinguish them? == Heatmap ==

I've made a video demonstrating that smell does not have an impact on the heatmap. As such, I attempted to remove the smell section from the Heatmap page (https://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Heatmap) and add smell to the "What Does NOT Increase Heatmap" section, along with a proper reference link to the video using the <ref> tag.

I received a long message stating my edits were matched by spam filter, contained a blacklisted site link (youtube), contained a section removal, and had a new user adding link at end or in heading.

What do I need to do in order to make such constructive edits?

Thanks,

Moderator abuse by DSquirrelGM
To the Admins: Have for a long time been one of the few to create 7DTD guides, and with the lack of A17 content was starting to update some with video guides. This is something I've done for a long time here, and even had Graybeard reach out favorably commenting on a guide he liked. When I did this a week ago, instead I get my vid guides reverted by DSquirrelGM, get an immediate ban imposed, and told videos are not appropriate for the wiki.

At the very least, if the wiki guidelines are changed to NOT allow videos, put that in the guidelines, and give a friendly reminder. But to revert AND out of the blue ban me for doing what I've done before with the admin's awareness, is terrible behaviour. And to call my vids "promotional" when they're directly addressing a mechanic of some sort for the game, and thus directly relevant, is fairly amusing. No one does guides because there's few views compared to the effort, I added them as they cover mechanics people often ask about.

So maybe a real wiki admin can respond, as to whether videos now are no longer allowed, in which case I'm happy to stop contributing them as content. If not, a slapdown of abusive powers would be most appreciated.

Thanks -- Vedui42

:I have seen some of your videos and I don't know since when the video tutorials on this wiki have been banned and I see no reason why it should be. To consider a video tutorial as promotional when you are not selling anything and there is not advertising in that is IMO excessive. In thay way, we could consider the entire wiki as promotional of the contributors and we should probably... erase it completely?. I think it's no sense.

:If the real problem is not to fill the articles with videos, (that is for organizational reasons), well, a multimedia section with all the videos and a links in the articles to this, could be more usefull and elegant instead of deleting the contents.

:To clarify, the problem is not that videos were added, but that no OTHER content relevant to the topic was added along with them. The user made no attempt to improve the page content by adding any sort of description to the pages, or even a writeup of what content was represented in the video. This sort of behavior is not considered to be constructive. The user was notified that if they wished to continue editing, they should actually edit the page text along with the video. This is also considered to be spamming links or self promotion, as noted in the block comment and on the profile comment. ::DSquirrelGM, you are not the admin of this wiki and what you are doing here is not part of the GRASP mandate. :: DSquirrelGM It seems to me enough contribution the work making a videotutorial and adding it as content to the wiki is something to be thankful for and not to delete it. Also, a user can not be forced to expose their content in the specific way that you prefer. I have not seen any links to spam or self-promotion in the articles, and the user's profile are personal, so I think your actions was excessive.

::Also the function of considering the rules of the wiki have been violated corresponds to the admins and not to the users, as emphasized Game widow. For that reason, please consult with the admins before to take your own actions againts users based on your own considerations. I believe that user videotutorials Vedui42 are constructive because they provide valuable information material for the wiki.

::After these statements, I think it is clear what is our opinion and resolution.

::"Video tutorials are welcome on this wiki."

:: Vedui42 you have permission to recover your previous publications without any action against you.

Thank you all, appreciate the support. I'm more than happy to engage in constructive discussion if some content is not appropriate. It's not as if I am an anonymous coward simply making random edits, and continue doing so despite being flagged and chastised for it. Getting a ban (even a temp one) without discussion or notice for something like this was very unexpected, so I'm very pleased to see the support and clarification. I'll go through and update relevant pages.

My personal view is that a mix of text, audio and video is the most engaging. To be honest, Subnautica probably has done it the best I've seen, with even I believe officially created videos for a lot of the wiki pages, which I thought was slick. Annoying as I loved the game and many/all the guides for it were already done, so not much left for me to cover, but I feel it worked great.

Thanks -- Vedui42

Problems with assigning categories to pages and then creating table references against them
First and foremost hello. I recently started updating some of the content here, which began with the Biome page and now i'm up against the Resources page, which i decided to redo on my own accord. Everything explained in the page, although i came across a very peculiar problem. My changes consist of updating the item specific pages with new info - strictly speaking adding "Template:infobox item" parameters, as well as adding a new specific "category" entry and then using those as reference material for the tables in the Resources page. This is fairly transparent with the current content, as i am merely updating the parameters i need (stack, ob_craft, ob_forge, meltable, etc.) to how they are in the game. After i finish the whole page, i will update everything in the items listed for the tables i created, for example verifying stack sizes, actual amounts of resource when scrapping to three digits after the comma, etc. I am constantly checking

My problem though: I wanted to add a general "Plants" page, so i added "Plant" as the category (as seen in the below script for creating such a table), but apparently only "Plants" is a valid value to retrieve all pages that have category "Plant" and "Plants". Even if a page had "Plant" and i created a table on its basis, it wouldn't retrieve any records, whether for example "Components" doesn't retrieve anything (as there are no "Components" category pages) and only "Component" works as it should (giving back results for the exact case sensitive word in item page, as well as in Resources page). Can someone explain to me if i should be doing this differently or what is wrong with this? Below is inner section of the code, so as to not create a table here. Either way you can compare this to other tables in the Resources page.

I assumed that adding some new value in "Template:infobox item" category parameter would allow retrieval of pages with such category automatically without the need to create a group. It worked for "Basic Material", "Complex Material" and "Component" values, but "Plant" apparently doesn't work... For the moment i have in the Plants table pages with both "Plant" (it was used before in pages) and "Plants" as category - examples Cotton Plant and Coffee Plant.

Vandalism by SylenThunder
SylenThunder (https://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/UserProfile:SylenThunder) has gone through a great number of pages to make edits removing allowed video content.

In some cases, he's also expressly done this on a revert I've made to another user who was removing video content. This despite the revert comment clearly referring to the admin page that the content was allowed.

Beyond being vandalism in general to remove content en masse, it's also directly against the Wiki Rules to simply remove page content without first reaching out to authors to discuss and try to resolve it amicably. "For content disputes, try first to resolve the issue using the specific talk (Discussion) page. "

Sample pages such as https://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Farming, but generally all edits I happened to see was the same, removing the content on different pages.

Have put a note highlighting this on the users page, but due to the large number of cases of vandalism also highlighting it on the admin board.

Cheers,

Ved :)

Can't fix the Goldenrod Plant page
So since apparently "removing a section" is considered a harmful action (let's just completely ignore that all changes can be reverted) I am unable to remove the "usage" section on the Goldenrod Plant page. Since there are no recipes involving the plant itself that section is not needed on that page.Ewolfg1 (talk) 06:59, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Updating pages for Alpha 19
I've noticed a good couple of things were/are missing updated info for alpha 19. Can we also get an infobox template for things that use power? It would look much cleaner if we could get rid of the section about weapon/tool properties and replace it with power requirements and light falloff. Sorry if I goof up the signature - haven't done one of these in a very long time SirWub (talk) 10:04, 30 November 2020(UTC)

Revision as of 12:47, 2 March 2021

The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly.

Please note; this page is for wiki-related issues only. That would include broken wiki pages, repeated or persistent vandalism and/or spam, etc. General questions about the game or new bug notifications should be posted in the official 7 Days To Die forums.

Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

 • For deletion requests, see Help:Deleting
 • For content disputes, try first to resolve the issue using the specific talk (Discussion) page. You can also make a request for comment on the community portal to try to generate a consensus.
 • For issues regarding acceptable use of this wiki, please see our help center.
 • For vandalism and spam:
 • Revert the content.
 • If the vandal/spammer created a new page, tag it for deletion (see Help:Deleting).
 • When vandalism/spamming is not obviously intended, assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason.
 • Post here if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning.
 • Always avoid a revert war with the vandal/spammer; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.
 • When reporting vandalism here, provide as much information as possible to help the admins locate the vandalized page(s) as well as the user's profile if they have registered.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking here, or clicking on the Edit tab and scrolling to the bottom.
