I've also created the [[Template:Cleanup]] to use for article management. If you find an article that needs cleaned up and you don't have time or the expertise, you can tag it to bring it to the attention of others. At it's simplest, you can add <code><nowiki>{{Cleanup}}</nowiki></code> at the top of the page to tag it, but that's not completely helpful. Better yet, you can give a reason, using <code><nowiki>{{Cleanup:Reason=Your reason}}</nowiki></code>. Additionally, you can use the item's talk page to spark a conversation about why the page needs attention.

Revision as of 12:57, 24 February 2016

The update of 7 Days To Die to version A13 has brought a lot of changes to the game that need to be documented and unfortunately, a lot of the articles on this wiki are already very dated.

This project page was created to act as a central organization point for cleaning up and updating pages to reflect the current state of the game.

Goal[]

The overall goal is of course, to get the critical pages up to date so that new players can find useful information. That means creating new pages for new features and updating old pages with new information, such as updated recipes, etc.

Tasks For Anyone[]

If you're new to wikis or just don't have a lot of experience editing them at a deep level, no problem. You can still help in the following ways:

  1. Editing for content: Correct grammar. Add information on pages, etc. All these pages need work: Category:Cleanup
  2. Add screenshots and images for clarity. Good with images? A lot need updated!
  3. Mark pages for {{Cleanup}} (see section below)
  4. Mark stubs by placing the {{Stub}} tag at the top of the page.
  5. Use the item's discussion page to start talking about items and their relevance in context of A13.
  6. Mark items removed from the game by placing the {{Removed}} tag at the top of the page.
  7. Expand the following pages for the new User Interface:

As you work through pages and correct problems, if the page has one of the tags mentioned above and you've fixed the problem, feel free to remove the tag.

Kill The Grid[]

The removal of the crafting grid from the game has broad affects on the wiki because 1) many pages incorporate it and it now looks foreign to new players and 2) the template used to generate the grid on wiki articles did other work. So simply gutting articles of the grid won't do (I tried...).

To replace the work performed by the Template:Grid/Crafting_Table I've created Template:Recipe, which allows us to do a couple of things:

  1. It standardizes the appearance of craftable items' recipes on all pages.
  2. It adds Category:Craftable_items to pages automatically.
  3. If formats recipes in a manner that data can be extracted and condensed for other pages, such as this one

Therefore, to help us get the wiki up to date with A13, you can begin by replacing the grid and other tables that are used to present required items for a crafting recipe with Template:Recipe. The documentation on the template should provide all the information necessary to get started.

You can use the table to the right to fix pages containing the grid. It generates a list of five random pages containing the grid. If the item containing the grid has been removed from the game, simply add the tag {{Removed}} to the top of the page and the grid will be ignored.

Kill the grid!

Update February 11, 2016[]

Big progress has been made. When this project started there were over 300 pages containing the grid. As of this update, there are only 71.

Update February 23, 2016[]

The grid has been removed from all craft-able items that aren't tagged as removed from the game. That was a lot of work! Thank you to everyone who helped remove it.

Two barnstars were awarded to users who removed the grid from ten or more pages: Controllish and Mince1174. Thank you both for the extra push to get it done before A14 hits!

Update February 24, 2016[]

The grid was more insidious than I realized. More pages have been found containing the grid. I have adjusted the DPL search and re-added the table above. Happy hunting!

Tagging Pages for Cleanup[]

I've also created the Template:Cleanup to use for article management. If you find an article that needs cleaned up and you don't have time or the expertise, you can tag it to bring it to the attention of others. At it's simplest, you can add {{Cleanup}} at the top of the page to tag it, but that's not completely helpful. Better yet, you can give a reason, using {{Cleanup|Reason=Your reason}}. Additionally, you can use the item's talk page to spark a conversation about why the page needs attention.

Tagged pages are added to the Category:Cleanup, making them easy to identify and address. 7 Days To Die Wiki
