Description[ | ]
A Corn Plant is a harvest-able plant which produces Ears of Corn. It can be found growing wild in the plains biome. It can also be grown on Fertile Dirt by planting a Corn Seed. The growth of the plant progresses through 4 stages, starting from a seedling until reaching a full size mature plant. Each growth stage takes 40 minutes with a mature plant taking the total time of 120 minutes to fully grow. It is possible to harvest a corn plant before it has fully grown, however, this will result in a lower yield.
Cultivation[ | ]
To cultivate a Corn Plant the player must first acquire an Ear of Corn, which is then crafted into Corn Seeds. Corn can be grown on Dirt, Fertile Dirt, or Asphalt.
Optional Ground Preparation[ | ]
Right clicking on any Grass or Dirt area with a Gardening Hoe will allow the player to till the ground turning it into Fertile Dirt ready for use. Furthermore, if left unused, the Fertile Dirt will eventually revert back to grass allowing Tall Grass to grow.
Planting[ | ]
With the seed equipped in their characters hand the player must place the cross-hair over the piece of Fertile Dirt, Dirt, or Asphalt and plant the seed using the right mouse button. Upon doing so the player will see a new Corn Plant seedling appear where specified. The Corn Plant is now at the start of its growth cycle.
Growth Cycle[ | ]
A Corn Plant has 4 stages of growth, lasting 40 minutes each.
Stage 1[ | ]
At this stage the Corn Plant is a newly planted seedling and is represented as such by a small seedling growing from the ground.
Stage 2[ | ]
Upon reaching stage 2 the Corn Plant will grow to a hight of one block and will show as a juvenile plant with new shoots.
Stage 3[ | ]
At this stage the plant will grow to a hight of 2 blocks and will becomes harvest-able, although doing so will result in a smaller harvest It should be left to grow a further stage, allowing the plant to gain full height and offer a larger yield.
Stage 4[ | ]
This is the final stage of growth for a Corn Plant and it is now ready to harvest at full potential. It is prudent to harvest the crop as soon as possible as if left for too long the Fertile Dirt on which it is planted will revert back to Grass allowing Tall Grass and weeds to grow around the plant.
This stage of growth produces 4 Ear of Corn in total: 3 Ear of Corn from the very top and 1 Ear of Corn from the stalk. The stalk will explode if you take the 1 Ear of Corn from the stalk before the 3 Ear of Corn from the top.
WARNING: You will not be able to collect anything that had not been collected before the stalk exploded. Best to work top down.
Harvesting[ | ]
Harvesting a Corn Plant is very simple, the player only has to move the cross-hair over the plant and the option to harvest the plant using the E key (Default) will be shown on the screen. However, care should be taken when harvesting a Corn Plant to ensure the top section is taken first and so on down the plant this will maximize the yield of the plant. If lower sections are removed first the section or sections above will fall to the ground and be destroyed.

Notes[ | ]
- Alpha 9.3X - The timer used by the plant will stop if the player ventures too far away from their farming area, only resuming again once the player is nearby.
- Alpha 9.3X - Plants currently do not grow while a player is offline.
- Alpha 9.3X - There is a bug in the farming mechanic that will allow the Fertile Dirt to revert to Grass before any planted crops have reached full growth. This seems to be a random bug as it is possible to grown several crops before the Fertile Dirt reverts back to Grass, yet it has also been reported to have happened just minutes after planting seeds on freshly laid Fertile Dirt.
- It appears corn seeds can be planted on non-tilled dirt or asphalt and it will still grow.
