Description[ | ]
A Corn Plant is a type of plant that produces Ears of Corn. It can be found growing in the wild, or it can be grown on Fertile Dirt by planting a Corn Seed. The growth of the plant progresses through 4 stages, beginning as a seedling until reaching a fully-mature plant. Each growth stage takes 40 minutes. A mature plant requires a total of 120 minutes to become fully grown. It is possible to harvest a corn plant before it has fully matured, however this will result in a lower yield.
Cultivation[ | ]
Corn Seeds are needed to cultivate a Corn Plant. Corn Seeds can be found as loot or crafted from Ears of Corn. Corn can be grown on Dirt, Fertile Dirt, or Asphalt.
Optional Ground Preparation[ | ]
A Gardening Hoe can be used to till the ground (by right-clicking), turning Grass or Dirt into Fertile Dirt. Fertile Dirt will eventually revert back to grass, if left unused, allowing Tall Grass to grow.
Planting[ | ]
With a Corn Seed equipped in hand, place the cross-hairs over a section of Fertile Dirt, Dirt, or Asphalt, then plant the seed using the right mouse button. A new Corn Plant seedling will appear.
Growth Cycle[ | ]
A Corn Plant has 4 stages of growth, lasting 40 minutes each.
Stage 1[ | ]
The Corn Plant is a newly planted seedling, represented by a small seedling growing from the ground.
Stage 2[ | ]
Upon reaching stage 2, the Corn Plant will grow to a height of one block, appearing as a juvenile plant with new shoots.
Stage 3[ | ]
The plant will grow to a height of 2 blocks with the option to harvest, although doing so will result in a smaller yield. Letting it grow to stage 4 will allow the plant to gain full height, offering the largest yield.
Stage 4[ | ]
This is the final stage of growth for a Corn Plant. It should be harvested as soon as possible, because the Fertile Dirt on which it is planted will revert back to Grass, allowing Tall Grass and weeds to grow around the plant.
This stage of growth produces 4 ears of corn; 3 from the top and 1 from the stalk. The top will explode if the bottom stalk is harvested first, so it's best to always harvest the top first, then the bottom stalk.
Harvesting[ | ]
To harvest a Corn Plant, move the cross-hair over the plant and the option to harvest the plant will appear. Press the 'E' key (default) to harvest. The top section should always be harvested before the bottom stalk, to maximize the yield of the plant. If the lower section is harvested first, the top section will fall to the ground and be destroyed.

Notes[ | ]
- Alpha 9.3X - The timer used by the plant will stop if the player ventures too far away from their farming area, only resuming again once the player is nearby.
- Alpha 9.3X - Plants currently do not grow while a player is offline.
- Alpha 9.3X - There is a bug in the farming mechanic that will allow the Fertile Dirt to revert to Grass before any planted crops have reached full growth. This seems to be a random bug as it is possible to grown several crops before the Fertile Dirt reverts back to Grass, yet it has also been reported to have happened just minutes after planting seeds on freshly laid Fertile Dirt.
- Corn seeds can be planted on non-tilled dirt or even asphalt and it will still grow.
