Description[ | ]

Emitting Smell is a status effect giving a negative buff that is caused by carrying meat. It will increase the likelihood of zombies detecting the player.

Causes[ | ]

As of Alpha 13, the following items emit smell:

Notes[ | ]

From misc.xml A14.5[ | ]

Joel's smell design: Raw meats smell the most, then charred, then grilled and boiled smell the least. Carbs generally do not attract zombies much so foods like corn bread, blueberry pie even though to humans can smell a lot, they do not attract zombies like meat does.

Careful when eating that Can of Chili:

<smell name="fart" range="15" strength="5" speed="15" duration="10" belt_range="10" belt_strength="5" />

Alpha 16 Bug[ | ]

The developers have modified the stealth engine for Alpha 16, and it has broken the debuff effect.

They have said they will restore it only in the Alpha 17.

This means that you can have such food in your inventory without any problem in Alpha 16 games.
