Food/Cooking is a major survival mechanic in 7 Days to Die. Consuming food/drink grants Fullness, which restores Max Stamina. Without periodic consumption of food/drink, hunger and thirst debilitate the player, slowing movement/action speed and eventually causing death.
Early Game Tips[ | ]
- Canned food and bottled water (found as loot or purchased from traders) are essential for early survival.
- All other food even cooked has a 4% chance of Food Poisoning. Vitamins can negate that chance for 12 minutes.
- Save Glass Jars and fill them at bodies of water.
- Campfire and a Cooking Pot are needed to boil Bottled Murky Water.
- Hunt and harvest animals for meat. Obtain a Bone Knife, Machete, or a Hunting Knife to harvest maximum loot (axes yield less).
- Save looted seeds to easily establish a farm later on.
- Spend skill points on Living off the Land, Master Chef, and other related perks for unlocked recipes and farming abilities.
Mid to Late Game Tips[ | ]
- Some Canned Food can be used in cooking recipes but most cannot. Canned Foods offer 0% Food Poisoning so consume them before raw foods.
- Establish a garden near bases to farm many vegetables and other plants needed for cooking recipes.
- Crops need sunlight to grow. Placing Farm Plots indoors will not allow them to grow.
- The most advanced recipes give the most amount of food too so favor them over basic foods.
Notes[ | ]
- You are unable to drink any more if your Water Fullness is at the maximum.
- You are unable to eat any more if your Food Fullness is at the maximum.
