"Used to generate power for your electrical components. See journal tip for more info."
Description[edit | edit source]
The Generator Bank is a placeable item used to generate power for your Electrical components.
The Generator Bank requires at least one Engine to run. Up to 6 total Engines can be placed within the Generator Bank, with each engine contributing 50W to the generator's maximum power output. The Generator Bank must be turned off to allow Engines to be added or removed. Furthermore, the Generator Bank requires Gas for fuel in order to supply power to your electrical circuit, and Gas can be added whether the Generator Bank is on or off.
Crafting[edit | edit source]
Uses[edit | edit source]
The Generator Bank allows you to power your electrical components. Use a Wire Tool to connect it to those other components. While supplying power, the generator will consume fuel at a rate dependent only on how much power is being used. A generator that is not powering any items will not consume any fuel, even if the generator remains on.
Interacting (default e key) with the generator will bring up the Generator Bank window. In this window is a display indicating the current fuel status of the generator, the maximum power output in watts, and the current power being drawn at the time from the generator. Turning the generator on and off and refueling it are also done from this menu.
As long as a generator you place down is within your Land Claim Block area, you are able to pick it back up by holding the interaction button and selecting the "take" option.
Power Drain[edit | edit source]
Note all time measurement in this section are in real time (not in-game).
Generator Banks consume fuel dependent only on the power being used by that Generator Bank. The number of Engines and thus the maximum power output does not affect fuel consumption.
Each watt of power being used will consume 1.8 units of fuel per real-time hour. This means that a full generator of 1000 units of fuel will provide 555 W-hrs of power. This will last (555/drain) hrs of real time power, with drain being equal to the power being used by the generator.
e.g. If you want to ensure you defenses will last one full real day (24 real time hours) the maximum drain 1 generator could do for that long is 23 watts, so if your defenses require 157 watts you need (157/23 rounded up) 7 generators fully fueled, each on their own circuit, to last that long.
It should be noted that Generator Banks do not consume fuel on empty servers, regardless if they are on or not.
Limitations[edit | edit source]
- The Generator Bank is not allowed to have any parent connections. This means that no incoming wire can be attached to the generator. Only outgoing power lines are allowed.
- The Generator Bank generates noise when turned on, even if no power is being consumed.
- The Generator Bank can only support 9 separate outgoing connections (A18), but one can daisy-chain connections to power more equipment downstream.
