Overview[ | ]
The Sawed-off Shotgun is a pump action firearm that can be found throughout the world in 7 Days to Die, It is a common weapon and easy to find, it can often be found inside Wall Safes. This weapon requires the Shotgun Shell and will hold eight cartridges, its durability will last for 250 shots. It will reload automatically if the player is carrying the correct Ammunition or it can be done manually at any time using the reload key (default key R).
Combat[ | ]
During close combat, the Sawed-off Shotgun is extremely powerful and deals a high amount of damage to enemies. It has a slight spread of the shot which allows the Weapon to hit multiple targets at once when used at a short range. For medium range combat the player may want to change to a more suitable Weapon like the Pump Shotgun.
Crafting[ | ]
Unlocking[ | ]
To be able to craft a Sawed-off Shotgun the player must first unlock its crafting recipe by reading the following Recipe Book:
Required Items[ | ]
Before a player can craft a Sawed-off Shotgun they will need to obtain the following Gun Parts:
Crafting Recipe[ | ]
The required items are placed into the crafting grid in the positions as shown below.

Repair[ | ]
The condition of a Sawed-off Shotgun deteriorates with each use until eventually it will stop working and will need to be repaired. This can be done using a Weapon Repair Kit.
- One Weapon Repair Kit will restore 40 durability.
- With a durability of 250, seven Weapon Repair Kits will be required to restore a fully depleted Sawed-off Shotgun.
The example shown below is merely to illustrate the items needed as currently they can be placed into the crafting grid in any position.

Other Uses[ | ]
Dismantling[ | ]
A Sawed-off Shotgun can be dismantled by placing it into the output slot of the crafting grid. This will break the weapon down into its component state, and display the parts in the main crafting grid. The player can then remove the parts and place them into their bag or tool belt.
Players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can also use this method to upgrade gun parts in the weapon to a higher quality. To do so, remove the desired gun part from the crafting grid, and replace it with a similar gun part of higher quality. Note that this action must be done in a specific order. You cannot first drag the NEW gun part onto the crafting grid and "swap" it with the OLD one. You must first drag the OLD gun part off of the crafting grid and replace or swap it with the NEW one.
Any player can place the weapon in the output slot, observe the weapon's component gun parts, and remove it from the output slot again without dismantling it. This action will also automatically unload the bullets into their bag or tool belt.
However, although any player can dismantle a weapon, only players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can reassemble or upgrade it. Players without this knowledge should never remove any gun parts from the crafting grid, unless they intend to permanently dismantle the weapon.
Forging[ | ]
The player can place a Sawed-off Shotgun into a Forge and it will be melted down into iron. Each one will produce 2.2 lbs of iron.
Scrapping[ | ]
A Sawed-off Shotgun can be scrapped by placing it into the center of the crafting grid to craft Scrap Iron.

Notes[ | ]
- The Sawed-off Shotgun like all weapons, can destroy blocks and structures.
- It has a larger shot spread than the Pump Shotgun.
- The player must fully reload the Sawed-off Shotgun to use it again. If the reload is interrupted at any point prior to all 8 shells showing up in the HUD the reload animation must start again before any shots can be fired.
- If the player changes the used slot while reloading, it cancels the reloading process, ammo is consumed at the beginning of the reload animation however ammo will get returned to the slot upon cancellation so that ammo is not wasted.
- A player can reload the weapon even though it is no longer usable, rendering all ammo in its magazine useless until it has been repaired.
- When reloading and switching items you will hear it reload but it will not actually reload.
- During the end of the reload after the sound, it may take 1-2 seconds until it is ready for use.
