General Questions[]

 • Vorlice Asks: Hi, sorry I am a bit new to wikis but I like exploring the game and learning all there is about it's internal workings. Since I am unsure where to put a lot of the info I obtain (or if it's even considered quality), would there be a info dump area so I could just contribute the things I find without worry of messing up another's work?
Hello Vorlice. You can register as user for free and later use your own page or create your own sandbox page to make testings. This is my sandbox page, and example: User:Magneto555/Sandbox. You can ask any questions for administrators on the Noticeboard. Also please sign your comments using the Signature button in the talk pages to easily know who the comment. Thanks! --Tuxed (talk) 19:23, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay, i was without internet access for a criminally long time. The pages have been deleted. — Game widow (talk) 21:31, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Hola! I would love to be head of the Spanish wiki for this, I'd even do German, too. The only problem is my knowledge of wiki articles is miniscule and my strengths are really just the languages. Any ideas? — Anderrn (talk) 18:14, 19 August 2013 (EST)

That sounds great then. I'm not even really sure if this is how you message on here. I am looking forward to translating the articles, however, yes, help learning the wiki would be extraordinary! Not even sure how to make the Spanish articles.

Adminship[]

Thank you very much, I would love to become an admin on here.

Great, thanks OOShinigamiOo (talk) 20:38, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, many thanks for your consideration of eichi87 and Magneto555s recommendations and promoting me to admin. I noticed a post on the community portal page asking about a change in the font color for links in a page. Pesonally I agree and do find the font color a little harsh on the eye, maybe a dark blue would be better suited and make the links more visible, an example would be "#003366 DARK blue". What do you think?
Peace and Respect! - Ecktos1 (talk) 00:38, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Hello and welcome! I all of you are happy with the dark blue, then that's fine by me. — Game widow (talk) 00:52, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
That's fine by me too :) I don't see any problem with the color right now but if there are ppl having problems with it we should change to another one :) - Eichi87 (talk) 08:34, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Even the links have more contrast now, I think green and blue don't match. I think the real problem is the background texture. We need a better style model. --— Magneto555 (talk) 17:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Is that any easier on the eye? — Game widow (talk) 18:14, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
I think you has hit the nail on the head there, it is much clearer now and keeps the original feel too.
Peace and Respect! - Ecktos1 (talk) 18:16, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Great! — Game widow (talk) 19:44, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Yeah!! Perfect, Game widow, it's much clearer now. I love the new background. Thanks! :D. --— Magneto555 (talk) 00:27, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
Awesome :) glad to help — Game widow (talk) 01:10, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Tutorials[]

Hi I think it would help a lot if you could do some extra tutorials on how to use wiki. For example the bit I am strangling at the moment is sortable tables. I have no idea how to create one and when I tried to edit one to learn it looks like Gibberish to me and didn't help at all in understanding how tables work.Feniks1984PL (talk) 10:38, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, sorry for the late reply but i've been away on vacation. Now that i'm back, i'll see what i can do :) — Game widow (talk) 11:43, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
I think 1 hour late isn't too bad :) Fox explaid a bit on my talk page if you want to expand on what he said and put it all togather in one tutorial so it's avaliable for everyone that would be great. Feniks1984PL (talk) 11:49, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
LOL, i had not actually checked the date, as i'm playing catch-up this morning, but certainly! — Game widow (talk) 11:50, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
OK, I've done a rudimentary help page about tables here. Feel free to add to it. — Game widow (talk) 16:56, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Missing Icons[]

 • Iron Wall (have one from ThunderSniper but that's a bit stretched so an original from the devs would be useful. Unless there is a file on and it simply needs replacing.)
 • Brass Car Radiator (Need to make the page)
I'm still waiting on a reply to the email i sent, but i'll keep you posted — Game widow (talk) 13:12, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Could you upload File:SniperRifle_triggerHousing.png again? Somehow it vanished. - Eichi87 (talk) 12:05, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Done — Game widow (talk) 13:44, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you :) - Eichi87 (talk) 17:11, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
 • Boiled Rabbit needs an image. How are you guys getting the images anyways?
I beg and plead with the game developers — Game widow (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Can you introduce me to your contact? I'm more than happy to take up the role of working with them to get updated images to help out. Mcwresearch (talk)

Fox's personal section[]

Hope you had a great New Years! I'm back with yet another question about our site, It would be really nice if we made it so when ever you include a item in a crafting recipe, that item will automatic list that it is used to make that item. Say for example, Bottled Water is in the crafting recipe for Sandstone, it would automatically list the item "Sandstone" under the "Used to make.." portion of the infobox on the Bottled Water. Would something like that even be possible? It would save a lot of time going to each item and adding and subtracting items from the "Used to make.." part. It sounds simple (but its probably not), so that's why I'm coming to you. Thanks — 3ShadowFox3 (talk) 19:50, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

As it stands, the problem is that this information is in 2 different templates, so i'm not sure how to combine them. If you want to try making some combined version in the sandbox, that's fine. I'll think on it and see if i can figure something out, but don't hold your breath. — Game widow (talk) 19:54, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Icon to Item Page Glitch[]

So ThunderSniperSteam found this bug on the wiki where if the picture has a underscore in the name, it will make the item have a lower case letter, therefore breaking any link to the right page. You can see what i mean on the Crafting page, if you scroll down For example, you will see a bunch of red links to pages we actually have, but since the link isn't capitalized correctly, its not sending it to the right page. For example, we have the page SMG Barrel on the wiki, but when ever you click on the Icon for the MP5 Barrel on crafting table on the SMG Barrel Mold page, it will send it to a page for SMG Barrel. Notice how "barrel" is not capitalized, this is because the image name is "Mp5_barrel". Every image that doesn't have a underscore in it, like "OilBarrel", works perfectly fine. Im not sure why the underscore is causing the issue, so I figured I'd ask you. If you need me to explain this better than just ask, as its kinda hard to explain. Thanks — 3ShadowFox3 (talk) 18:43, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

I'll look over the logic and see what's happening. — Game widow (talk) 20:13, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Actually this is no error in the script. I assume this wiki is running on a linux/unix machine which makes it case sensitive. If you use lower case letters it is different than the capitalized ones. He wrot in all his crafting tables "MP5_barrel". Therefor the server thinks he means "MP5 barrel". Obviously the "_" is ignored but not the small "b". If he writes "MP5_Barrel" the server will redirect to "MP5 Barrel".
This has nothing to do with the Template:Icon to item, because this is only used for icons. The dpl uses the links not the icons. I hope I clearyfied some thing :)
Solution for this Problem is simply stick to the rules of the system and use capitalized letters where it's used in the name of an article. - Eichi87 (talk) 21:39, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
As an example I fixed Pistol Barrel Mold. I changed it from "Pistol_barrel" to "PistolBarrel" and edited the corresponding entry in Template:Icon to item and voi lá :) - Eichi87 (talk) 21:43, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
What makes me wonder is why I didn't have to change the filename... The file is still "Pistol_barrel" but "PistolBarrel" uses the image... - Eichi87 (talk) 22:04, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Eichi, is think you'll find the reason behind not needing to change the image here. Although this is a good idea, I think we're creating almost duplicate pages for no reason and changing the file names would be best, as mentioned on Fox's talk page, I don't mind being the one to this.
In relation to the new moves to keep the links in order, the Pump Shotgun Stock and Sniper Rifle Stock Mold appears to have vanished, the moved file has no data and the old page is deleted. Can you check this for me? The latter did throw an error, but possibly due to me moving so many files so close together!
I've reuploaded the images you deleted. Renaming is definitely a way to deal with this issue, but please be careful, there are certainly times when leaving a redirection is desirable and other times when it isn't — Game widow (talk) 00:17, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Your little deletion spree caused more devastation than you solved. When i tell you that i will check something out, please have the courtesy to wait in the future. What you have done is removed anything i had to use for troubleshooting, so i'm done with this issue. you can resort to your own solution in the future — Game widow (talk) 00:26, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I am sorry for how much trouble this has caused, I was simply trying to keep the amount of redirects and Short Pages to a minimal number. I'll take note and leave redirects in future, apologies again. Thunder Sniper (talk) 00:58, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
i understand your good intentions, really i do. I'm just tired and frustrated. There's really no need to worry about redirections and short pages. — Game widow (talk) 01:10, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I'll help a bit with sorting out the errors. don't be frutrated game widow. sometimes someone overshoots the mark ;) - Eichi87 (talk) 09:28, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I recognized you allready did some work :) I smoothened the rest now and think we are good to go :) Also I made some improvements to other articles like Stone. It was listet with 9 entries in Crafting... - Eichi87 (talk) 10:23, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure I spoke to Fox about that, a lot of people seem to use the wrong template sometimes. Thunder Sniper (talk) 11:38, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Icons[]

Hey there :) For the new version there seems to be no way of exporting the icons. Do you still get the icons from the devs? I am able to export the sprite file but it is a pain to cut them all and name them properly. If you get the icons named by the devs it would be very helpfull if you could upload them. If not I think we need to stick to cut out and rename :) - Eichi87 (talk) 07:51, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

I will see what i can do, but i've not gotten anything from the devs a quite a while — Game widow (talk) 13:15, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Which icons do we need? i will also start cutting them from the sprite file.

Ecktos1[]

Hey there game widow. How are you doing?
Magneto and I would like to promote User:Ecktos1 to be an admin. :)
Could you do this please? - Eichi87 (talk) 10:23, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Sure thing. For just the english wiki, or for all language versions ? — Game widow (talk) 11:43, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
I think only the english one will do. He didn't participate on any other for I can tell :) - Eichi87 (talk) 10:27, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Alright, then i gave him those rights yesterday. He's good to go — Game widow (talk) 11:41, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much :) - Eichi87 (talk) 08:15, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

languages[]

Things are going pretty well around here :) I'm right now more focused on the german version as there are plenty of admins on the english one. Do you have any idea how we could support the other languages? I feel like italian and dutch are falling apart (25 and 23 articles). russian, polish and spanish are doing pretty well (120+ articles) but not even close to english and german (535 and 544). - Eichi87 (talk) 08:15, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

This is often the case. All i can suggest is that you try drumming up interest on the forums and maybe add something on the main (english) page to try to recruit people. They don't need to have much wiki experience if they are willing to translate stuff. The only things that need to be done that are technical is the changes to the templates and if they an provide us with the wording, we can do those.
We've just received a request to start a Hungarian version of this wiki. I've tried to make sure that the person requesting it realizes the full implications and work involved, but only time will tell. I'm creating a category for the Hungarian translations, just so it doesn't take you by surprise. — Game widow (talk) 10:55, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
ok i'll try that. I've seen you added a help translating link to the main page. I will do the same on the german wiki. I will think about something to raise attention. Maybe some sort of banner... We'll see :)

Advertising[]

Thanks for the heads up. This banner looks "great" ;) Desktopversion looks "ok" but the mobile version simply looks terrible ^^ I think there is not much we can do about it right? - Eichi87 (talk) 09:47, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

For the hungarian wiki. As soon as I see someone is working on it, i'll tell him he may ask me for technical help :) thanks for the heads up :) - Eichi87 (talk) 16:20, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
We can do some styling with Mediawiki:Mobile.css. Could upload a screenshot of what you see on mobile for me? i actually don't own a mobile device, so all i see is the mobile version as interpreted by my desktop and i'm not sure that's really what it looks like. — Game widow (talk) 13:28, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Game Icons[]

When uploading in-game icons, I've noticed any that I place in the crafting grid are disproportionate, they are usually stretched and I'd prefer to just ask what the fix is for this instead of playing and mutating the images to fit. Thunder Sniper (talk) 19:23, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Are you actually uploading the icons from the game code, or cut-out screenshots of them ? If it's the former, that is the problem. The grid expects them to be a particular size (116 × 80px total image size with the icon itself centered in there) — Game widow (talk) 19:26, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
Ahhhh, I see, I've ripped them from the game code and simply deleted anything around them, so they are as small as possible. I shall take note and make sure they are that size now! Thanks :) Thunder Sniper (talk) 19:27, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Durability[]

Hi there, I am a little confused and worried about the mechanics of Durability. In the Building Materials page I am attempting to find some information when something struck me as rather odd. When placing a Wood Frame you may upgrade it in this order: Old Wood > Reinforced Wood > Metal Reinforced Wood.

What confuses and worries me is that on the table in Building Materials, Old Wood is apparently stronger than Reinforced Wood. This makes no sense as Reinforced Wood is an upgrade, nevertheless, I took to the Durability page to ascertain the vaules myself and since both blocks have a Hardness of 0.5 in-game as of the current release Alpha 10.4 build 9, this means their durability is, based on the equation on the Durability page, exactly 1!

If this is true and they are both exactly the same durability, then is it possible to add in some fail-safe protocol for infoboxes regarding these items that will automatically generate the durability based on a user inputted values of Hardness and then combining that with the Block Damage of a perfectly brand new appropriate tool of the item in question?

I'm sorry if this is a little in-depth, thought I'd give you something to dig your teeth into :) Just worrying about the integrity of the information since the pages are quite out-dated :) Thanks widow! Thunder Sniper (talk) 16:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure i can be much help here, but the Buidling Materials table simply pulls in the values that are in the infoboxes on the linked pages, so if a value is incorrect in the original item infobox, then it will be incorrect on the table. I checked the Item infobox template and no calculations are performed, so any values in the durability field are simply typed in by the contributor(s). If there is a firm formula being used in-game, and that same formula is based on other statistics already included in the infobox, then the infobox can be made to calculate the durability from those more basic stats. However, there is no more (or less!) guarantee that the component stats are any more reliably reported by wiki contributors. That said, if you can provide the formula, as the more basic stats are already included, then we can certainly amend the infobox logic to use them and hopefully reduce the amount of misleading information — Game widow (talk) 22:47, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
The only problem I have with the current Durability page is that I'm not convinced the formula is correct. As I mentioned, surely the upgraded form of Old Wood, which is Reinforced Wood is going to have more Durability? It stands to reason in the term upgrading. Nevertheless, if I knew a way of acquiring the formula I would certainly set out to try and fix every item on the Building Materials page personally.

Based on the current items on that list I am pretty confident when I say there's a problem with the integrity of the information. I don't feel I can safely say the many users of the wiki are going to be reading that page and be reading valid and useful stats. On this basis I'd like to find a way to actually fix it so if there is a way to get into the in-depth formulas that generate the Durability of blocks I would definitely like to find it! Even if it means going to the dev's themselves!

When playing on a server that you don't have cheat mode turned on and you aren't exactly aware of 100% of the game as most players will be, they will turn to the wiki for information on what will be protect them inside their homes. With a currently out-of-date or at least not recently verified formula. There must be some way of obtaining this?

I'll have a look through the game files we get but I doubt it'll be in there. Some of which I won't understand, I'll let you know what I find and if it can be of any use we can thus implement it as you said with a basic formula in the infobox. This will take away some potentially incorrect user input. Thunder Sniper (talk) 20:06, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

I think I've resolved half the problem, playing with the block durability changed lowers the Hardness thus the Durability thought that would have been hard coded to just Durability but hey at least that's half out the way!
Just got the automatic infobox to try out now. I'll update when I have some results but I'm going to run a quick test on every item on the Building Materials page. Worried the info is out dated :) Thunder Sniper (talk) 20:16, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Right, I've gone through the entirety of the Building Materials page but I think it's yet to update itself. All the current Building Materials linked items have their Hardness correctly edited. The only problem is the Durability formula is dependant on the Appropriate Tool's Block Damage and I'm not sure how to code that into the infobox. Thunder Sniper (talk) 23:26, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

User Wikis[]

Hey Widow, was just checking through some of my posts and realised whenever you click on a user's signature it points to their profile instead of their wiki, so I attempted to change mine. However, an internal link to UserWiki:ThunderSniperSteam does not work, despite popping that into the address bar does! I don't really want to externally link in my signature. Is there a reason it doesn't work? I do realise that being on my User Wiki page nullifies the signature link that actually points to my profile instead so I think there's a little mix up on the engine but I'd appreciate it if you could look into it. Personally, I'd prefer people landing on my wiki page instead of my profile when they click my signature. Thanks, Thunder.

P.S. Any luck on the above situation? I sorted all the Hardness out but adding the formula to the Durability part is a bit over my head. JavaScript and PHP I'd be fine, just never done it in wiki! Problem is it is dependant on the Appropriate Tool! Thunder Sniper (talk) 23:00, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

I have reported it to the team that deals with it as i also find it annoying. Part of it is based on user preferences (choice under Public Profile, the default is the Profile page), but there remains the issue of red links on one version or the other of the user page (wiki vs. profile_, especially in recent changes. Rest assured that i will not rest until something is done for the better — Game widow (talk) 03:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Info Box[]

Hi Widow,

Hope you're well, I've edited the item infobox to accomodate an experience component, however, I am displeased with how it displays and am not sure what would best portray the stats. Since your earn extra experience the first time round it would ideally need two sub-stats First Use and Subsequent Uses. I have edited Charred Pork and you may see how it displays there but I feel there is a better way, I did use this: 40 | 20 but that looks horrible.

On another note, I'm not entirely sure how to extract the icons from the game any more. Since Alpha 11 and now Alpha 12 I can't get UAE to work correctly and so cannot extract any new icons I'm afraid. I

I've requested a new dump of item icons from the developers. I'll upload them when i get them. As for the infobox, there are several ways to tackle this kind of thing. One way is to have mouse-over text for the values explaining the "initial" vs "subsequent" circumstances. Another would be to separate out the xp into its own section and have 2 fields (Initial and subsequent, or whichever labels you feel are appropriate). — Game widow (talk) 10:49, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Excellent, hopefully I can find a way around the errors I am getting as I probably have more free time than the developers do to extract icons and upload them. I have given those options a thought and I'm not sure on the mouse over option, although it would certainly look cool, but then I'd prefer to keep the component list to a minimum as it already very large.
I did give the mouse over a try but it appears we are missing the template: gives us this:

Subsequent 20 EXP

. I am not sure if we already have one here, so didn't want to create something obsolete. I got that from here.

Something else to think about there, possible splitting the item info boxes into separate categories? Building, Weapon, Resource infoboxes etc. Thunder Sniper (talk) 12:16, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
You can split the infoboxes, but it's not really necessary. Simply adding logic that changes what is displayed based on the type of item it is does the same thing. I also added that template for the mouseover text — Game widow (talk) 12:31, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

File Duplicates[]

Have noticed several "duplicates" on this wiki: File:PumpShotgunStock.png w hich is set to redirect to File:PumpShotgun stock.png and also File:Shotgun stock.png

All of these images are exactly the same, are we able to switch them all over to just one single image as the Icon to Item page is set on the first one, which simply redirects to another.

Just a little confused on why we have so many and if we can bring it back under control. Thunder Sniper (talk) 08:33, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Of course, just first inspect each of the incorrectly named file pages and look to see if any pages on the wiki are using that image, then go to those pages and replace the instances of the filename with the correct one, then just delete the redirection. If you are uncomfortable with that, I can have a look, but it's pretty straight forward. — Game widow (talk) 13:53, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh I'm aware it's straight forward, I've no problem with taking the task on, but I just wondered if we could restore the original File:PumpShotgun_stock.png as I'm sure that was the file we used in the first iteration of weapons here when they were first added. I'm sure the others are simply because people didn't realise they were being duplicated but I just feel we have redundant pages that aren't necessary. I'll have a look into it, also just wanted to make you aware if I did go ahead. Thunder Sniper (talk) 14:54, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Restored — Game widow (talk) 15:07, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Wrote back on his/her talk page but thanks for clarifying. Appears many items from A13 aren't on those dpl lists so we've some work to do now :) Thunder Sniper (talk) 14:33, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Widow, rather not create a separate section but I've got notifications on the site that won't clear at all. Is there any way to force them to clear that I can do in case this happens a few times? Thanks, and Happy New Year :D Thunder Sniper (talk) 19:08, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Do you mean that count on the top bar next to the little bell ? if so, that is a known issue. It will be looked at, but possibly not as quickly as some people would like — Game widow (talk) 19:10, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
No problem, thanks for the update. Just a little annoying as I keep thinking you've messaged me! XD Thunder Sniper (talk) 19:36, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Oki.--— Magneto555 (talk) 16:40, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Game Widow, I have many local images of the Spanish version it doesn't appear as duplicate with the shared repository, yet are also in the English version. An example is es:Archivo:SniperRifle_triggerHousing.png, which is duplicated with File:SniperRifle_triggerHousing.png, but still doesn't appear to be duplicated, although others are showing the duplication. I need to know how the shared repository works to know what to do with those images, please. --— Magneto555 (talk) 21:08, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

There are duplicates in the english icons. That is up to you guys to sort out. When i upload icons, it is with the names the developers of the games gave them, but if someone uploaded the same icon with a different name, or failed to understand how the various templates work and renamed some (which would then result in duplicates when i uploaded newer versions) I can't help that. While it's not fun, the best way to deal with this is to go through the english icons and make sure there are no duplicates there. Then move on to other language wikis — Game widow (talk) 01:26, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
The Shared depository works as the "master" so any file that is there is available to all wikis. If a file with the same name is uploaded to any wiki *other* than the english wiki, that that file takes precedence on the wiki where it was uploaded only. It is not available to the other language versions and it does not affect the version on the english. The "replacement" only occurs on that one wiki where it was uploaded. — Game widow (talk) 15:10, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. I'll see what I can do. --— Magneto555 (talk) 14:51, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Widow, I don't suppose you could give us a list of the files that the devs give you? At least that way, we can work our way through the duplicates so that the correct images have the correct names. If you'd rather, you could share the folder on Google Drive or Dropbox and I'll happily convert it into a list and start working on it. Just think we should be using the correct file names to avoid constant duplicates. Thunder Sniper (talk) 12:34, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
If you look here you can see all the files i've uploaded in 2015 — Game widow (talk) 12:42, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
There's a fair few ... I'll see if I can make life easier as I think a basic list would be easier to work with :) Thanks. Thunder Sniper (talk) 12:51, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Ecktos1's Personal Section[]

Hi Game Widow, I seem to be having a problem updating some of the item icons. I updated the icon for the Pistol Receiver to the new Alpha 11 version but when it had uploaded it remained as the old version. I even tried deleting all previous old versions and uploading the new one afresh, but to no avail. The thing that baffles me is that at full size it displays as the old version yet if it resized it will display as the new version at the requested size. An example can be seen in the table and crafting grid of the Pistol. I also have the same problem with the images of the Toilet. I would appreciate any help you can give regarding this problem so I can get on and update the older icon I find to the new versions.
—— Ecktos1 Admin (talk) 09:49, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

This is a problem mostly likely related to Cloud Flare and the bizarre way they manage their caching of data. I will see if there's anything we can do at this end, but likely, the only solution is to wait. I'll keep you posted — Game widow (talk) 12:49, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Loop Functions[]

Hi Game widow, i've been working on updating and clarifying templates on this wiki and i'm wondering if there would be any chance a Loop functions extension (ex: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:LoopFunctions) could be added. It would really help move formatting "template-side" instead of relying on the editors to keep the format standard. It would also improve the readability of some templates using "Auto-Categorization" or similar algorithms.
--Vahlemon (talk) 21:24, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

We have Loops, would that suit ? — Game widow (talk) 01:38, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
Yup, that would work =)
--Vahlemon (talk) 01:51, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
Done (in all language versions) — Game widow (talk) 16:33, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi[]

Wanted to say hello! I've fallen in love with 7 Days and want to make this the first and best place to find 7 Days info. As a new player, I have found some inconsistencies around the site, and I'm tweaking things as I go around, but I'm afraid to make any major changes as I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I'm no expert in Wiki or 7 Days, but I'm enthusiastic. I know you're the Curse guy, but is there a admin/mod type person I should be in contact with, or should I just jump in and get to work? --Ellanon (talk) 01:56, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm thrilled to have enthusiastic newcomers :) and yes, i'm a Curse gal (wiki team lead, as it happens). The place to look for the admins is hereGame widow (talk) 03:15, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
>Curse Gal
Please accept my apologies. I operate under a sarcastic women-don't-exist-on-the-net policy until told otherwise. lol I appreciate the prompt responses and I'm sure I'll talk to you again. Thank you. --Ellanon (talk) 03:26, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Another question, I'm having a hard time figuring out DPL editing. I can't fix incorrect links in the dynamically created content. Help? Found the manual and sorted it. I think. lol --Ellanon (talk) 04:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
DPL is tricky at the best of times. Basically, you need to edit the source page then make a null edit on the page with the dpl to change the value. Which page(s) is problematic ? — Game widow (talk) 08:38, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
This section was showing double entries. http://7daystodie.gamepedia.com/Wildcard_Recipes#Breakdown_Weapon You can see what I did while trying to sort it in the history. lol I was trying to also figure out why the tables were showing old links to missing pages. (SniperRifleParts vs Sniper_Rifle_Parts) Does the Wiki take a while to "refresh"? Eventually the page updated to the correct links, but I think it was only after I changed the dpl code and reverted it, causing it to recompile the information. Does it do that on it's own, or do I have to force it to redraw the data? --Ellanon (talk) 15:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
When changes are made, you often have to place the table in edit mode and resave (a change is not usually necessary) to force an update — Game widow (talk) 17:29, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I'm confused. Edit mode for what table? This is what I see when I look at things.
<dpl>
categorymatch=Dismantleable items
distinct=strict
include = {infobox item}:image, {Grid/Crafting Table}.dpl
secseparators = \n| %TITLE%,\n|,
format = {| class="wikitable sortable"\n!Item!!Yield,\n|-,,
</dpl>
What am I missing? --Ellanon (talk) 17:36, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
That is the table, you can see it in that second last line ( format = {| class="wikitable sortable"\n!Item!!Yield,\n|-,, ) — Game widow (talk) 21:18, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Ok, but you said putting the table in edit mode. What does that mean? Editing Source? --Ellanon (talk) 22:14, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Edit source (depending on your preferences you can simply have edit source as the default -- just switch off the Visual Editor under the editing tab in preferences). As soon as you are in the edit mode, just save (without doing anything else) that forces the update. — Game widow (talk) 12:44, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Modding section[]

Hi, wondered if we (sh/c)ould make a modding category for things like the XMLs and whatever modders come up with (and help documenting ;) ). I was just looking for a place to document the mod-interface and noticed that there isn't any page for it so far. If such a category is added I'd propose to have a link directly on the front page in either the "Game mechanics" or "Game features" box. Regards, Chris - Alloc - Christian (talk) 08:38, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Sure, i don't see any problem with that, but you should talk it out with the actual administrators here. I'm just the Curse liaison who helps out with technical issues and such. Creating categories is the same as creating any other pages, you only need to use the word "Category:" as a prefix, eg. , and then put that new category page in whichever category you'd consider its parent (like Game mechanics, or whichever you decide). — Game widow (talk) 13:19, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay, thought you were also responsible for some of the content on here ;) I know about the category part, just was not sure if it's wanted on here and also can't put it on the front page as it's locked. Is there a place where the admins discuss stuff on here (and users can join in)? Would the Admin noticeboard be the right place? Alloc - Christian (talk) 15:18, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Either the Admin noticeboard or the Community portal, and for a list of the active admins, you can also check Administrators. I only help with content in the most general sense. I've never even played the game other than about 5 mins of the very first release. As for adding stuff to the main page, i think that would be a worthwhile addition. If you can't find anyone, i'll step in, but i prefer to let the local admins take the lead. I know ThunderSniperSteam‎‎ has been active recently — Game widow (talk) 15:33, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Have replied to Alloc, however, I would like to make a front page for the modding category and I am hoping to then display the Modding category page within that page. Is this possible? And if so, how? I feel this will encourage more people to look into modding and create their own content, plus of course keeping them on the wiki with it's ever expanding content. A category page on it's own is quite difficult to navigate and understand for new users, especially when it's mainly consisting of XML editing (currently). After this page is created and looks nice, we can have the category page display within it, at the bottom for more advanced users and place this page as a link on the main page. Thunder Sniper (talk) 18:55, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure i know what you mean. Certainly to see the content of the category you can link to it as you did above. If you mean that you want some sort of text as well the contents of the category, you can edit a category just like any other page and place text and images on it. The contents are still displayed, just below anything you add. Alternatively, you can have a link on the main page, which goes to a main "Modding" page, which is itself part of the modding category. In order to have a particular page file first in a category, you just add a pipe and a space after the category name, like this . That forces whatever page you place that code in to file first in the Modding category, regardless of its name. Personally, i think a link on the main page either to a modding page or directly to the category is a good start — Game widow (talk) 19:17, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Created blank Modding page and link added to main page. --— Magneto555 (talk) 00:58, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Excellent start :) — Game widow (talk) 02:06, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, and good idea with the section, guys. --— Magneto555 (talk) 16:35, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry actually, as the modding scene expands I have a feeling my suggestion would become more of a problem so we'll just keep it as it is. :) Thunder Sniper (talk) 17:30, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Not sure what you mean, I thought this is what you need. A modding page in which expose everything about this topic, linked to main page. I think it's okay, but if you need anything else, let us know :). --— Magneto555 (talk) 18:48, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
This isn't something I need, I was the only active administrator at the time until about a few hours ago! :) Alloc suggested having a section dedicated to modding so I was giving a helping hand. Thunder Sniper (talk) 19:17, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Good work :). --— Magneto555 (talk) 19:23, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Regarding crossbowSchematic[]

Hi Game widow,
I attempted to rename the CrossbowSchematic page to "crossbowSchematic" (with a lowercase 'c') per the in-game title of the item, but the wiki automatically changes it to a capital 'C'. Is there a way to force page titles to begin with a lowercase letter?
Here is a screenshot of the item. Thanks. --NibKing (talk) 12:05, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

CrossbowSchematic.jpg
Is this an aesthetic choice or does this standard behaviour prevent you from doing something in particular? If it's for aesthetics, you can use to make it appear as such — Game widow (talk) 12:10, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
Not aesthetic choice, I was trying to rename the page to match the in-game name. I guess the standard behaviour of the wiki prevents editors from using lowercase letters as the first character of a page title (as in automatically changing the first letter, 'c', to a capital 'C', even though I used a lowercase c when I tried to rename it). --NibKing (talk) 12:58, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
But seriously, having it display with the lowercase c should do. You've mentioned nothing that necessitates any special use. Linking to a page with a lowercase first letter works as it is. — Game widow (talk) 15:52, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
It's not displaying with the lowercase c, though. That is the reason I originally left this message ...to find out if there is a way to create pages with a lowercase first letter. The page I mentioned links to a page with an uppercase first letter, unless it displays differently, for some reason, to admins. --NibKing (talk) 20:48, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
Just a clarification, NibKing, crossbowSchematic is the internal name of what should be Crossbow Schematic in the wiki (see the tittle), which is right. You should avoid internal names and use the complete names instead. You can use a redirection to that page if needed. Anyway the searches are not case-sensitive, FYI. --— Magneto555 (talk) 03:26, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi Magneto555. Thanks for the reply. However, the internal name is irrelevant and the Title is often misleading. All schematic articles on the wiki reflect the name of the schematic as it's displayed in the game (it's topmost title, circled in yellow on the picture below). The Title (circled in black) very often does not match the name of the schematic. The schematic circled in red is the item in question and the reason I attempted a page rename. Hopefully, this makes a bit more sense. --NibKing 04:13, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Schematics Example.jpg
Hello, NibKing. I'm just giving you a solution, because as I said before, that name appears to be an internal name of the game. As you can see is the only in lowercase without spaces. It's probably the only way because the capital letter is the internal working of this wiki. Regards. --— Magneto555 (talk) 10:12, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
No problem, I do appreciate it. I'm guessing TFP will probably fix it at some point anyway. I really didn't mean to make such a big deal out of all this. I'm not gonna go back and undo my edit, but it won't hurt my feelings if someone else does. It may even make more sense to. Anyway, thanks again for the replies. --NibKing (talk) 11:59, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Adminship (ru:)[]

Hi!
I would like to be the administrator in the Russian section of the encyclopedia.
Some functions (renaming, forwarding, etc.) are not available to me. User OC (talk) 09:48, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by forwarding, but ok — Game widow (talk) 13:45, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks :) If I have any more questions, I'll write.User OC (talk) 14:17, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Good day!

I don't have enough rights for normal editing and creating pages.

- I can't create and edit categories.

Categories are just like any other page, anyone (even without admin rights) can create them. For a category to "exist" it should belong to a parent category. — Game widow (talk) 18:06, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
I understood. Sorry to trouble you, but I anyway do not understand one thing: I created three pages - ru:Полоска кожи, ru:Кузнечные мехи], ru:Книга рецептов. These pages were automatically assigned to different categories. But I can not edit them. On the edit page does not have these categories. On the page ru:Книга рецептов I myself have added the category ru:Категория:Специальные. On the edit page, this category is present. How to edit or delete the category? The encyclopedia wikipedia, everything was different.User OC (talk) 11:54, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Those categories were added by the infobox template, (ru:Шаблон:Infobox item). Edit that and change the values you wish to change, then open and resave (without making any changes) the individual pages if the change is not automatic. — Game widow (talk) 17:34, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, will try to understand.User OC (talk) 22:24, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

- Now faced with such a difficulty: Many of the pages in the crafting table pop-up prompts in English. There must be page or table of redirects, but to me they are unavailable and I can't do tooltips of items in the crafting table in the Russian language. For example, a page - ru:Арбалет. I tried to make strips of skin a tooltip on the Russian language and redirect to the page ru:Полоска кожи with design "File:LeatherStrips.png|48px|link=Полоска кожи" , but it's too cumbersome and probably there's an easier way. As I wrote above, I guess I just don't have enough rights to edit special pages.User OC (talk) 17:46, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

For the Russian terms, you need to edit the Шаблон:Icon to item template — Game widow (talk) 18:06, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. :) You helped me out again.User OC (talk) 19:13, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
