Workstations is a crafting skill that dictates what tools the player can craft. The skill can be leveled by reading Forge Ahead magazines. Each magazine increases the Workstations skill by 1, up to a max of 75. The chance of finding these magazines can be increased by leveling the Advanced Engineering and Lock Picking Perks.
